Our Mission:
MNA's mission is to serve public benefit nonprofits by strengthening the collective voice, leadership, and capacity of nonprofits to enrich the lives of all Michiganders. Our Vision:
Michigan's nonprofit sector will be a vital leader in building and sustaining thriving communities. We are champions for nonprofits and the communities they serve. We are deeply invested in our core value

s which are:

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice- We place an intentional focus on diversity, equity, inclusion and justice (DEIJ) because we have felt the impact of injustice. We challenge ourselves and others to ask the uncomfortable questions. We aim to lead with empathy and compassion. Integrity- Integrity is the foundation upon which we build relationships and trust. We will not compromise our integrity. We aim to know and do what is right. Forward Thinking- We seek to make all decisions with a focus on the future- to do our part to create a better tomorrow. Excellence- We strive to set and achieve ambitious goals. Relationships Focused-We take pride in nurturing our relationships. Results Driven- We produce results. We are reliable and hold the trust of many stakeholders. Respect- We have respect for each other, our stakeholders, and the entire charitable sector. We value the opportunity to lean into acceptance. We will continue to take time to listen, learn, and grow. Our History:
Incorporated in 1990 as the Michigan Nonprofit Forum, the organization was first a think-tank dedicated to discussing issues impacting nonprofits. In 1994, the organization was renamed as the Michigan Nonprofit Association to provide direct advocacy and services to local nonprofit organizations.

Happy Juneteenth! Today marks June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved Black Americans learned they were free, more than two years after emancipation was declared.

It’s a day to reflect on our history, celebrate Black culture, and take action now.

A few simple ways to show up:

✔️ Support a Black-owned business in your community or online
✔️ Share and uplift Black voices and entrepreneurs
✔️ Give to or volunteer with Black-led nonprofits
✔️ Take time to listen, learn and support efforts that advance equity

Together, we can help build communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

We just launched a new video in our 501(c)(3) campaign featuring Be Healthy Berrien. This nonprofit is working to make it easier for people in their community to access affordable, healthy food.

But this work goes beyond food. It’s about how communities come together to shape healthier places to live. When folks invest in local food systems, improve walkability, and focus on what people really need, real change starts to happen. Not just in programs, but in the systems that support everyday life. This is what systems change looks like.

It takes all of us working together to create communities where healthy eating and active living are part of daily life. Where the environment, policies, and supports are built to help people thrive.

Take a look at the video and see how Be Healthy Berrien is helping build a healthier future for everyone.

We said goodbye last week to four members of the MNA board - Carolyn Bloodworth, Kyle Caldwell, Todd Culver, and Paul Long- who have completed their terms. We are deeply grateful for their years of service, leadership, and commitment to MNA. Board service is at the heart of strong nonprofits. It takes time, care, and a willingness to lead behind the scenes, and our organization and community are stronger because of people who step up in this way.

We thank Carolyn, Kyle, Todd, and Paul for all they’ve contributed and for helping shape MNA’s impact!

Heads up! MNA will be closed for our annual summer break from July 1 to July 7, 2026. Our team takes this time each year to rest and recharge. Stepping away from the work helps prevent burnout and keeps our communities strong.

We’ll be back on July 8 and excited to get started on some new things for our members, including our new MNA Member Health Plan (MMHP).

Have questions about the plan? Send us a message: [email protected]

Don’t worry, our website will still be available 24/7 while we’re away.

. 🐾Max here, Chief Snack Specialist… and I’ve got priorities.
I don’t do anything without proper compensation and right now, I’m working overtime trying to get you to complete MNA's compensation and benefits survey. 🍖
The deadline is this week (June 12) and we need your input to help nonprofits make smart, fair decisions about pay and benefits.
If you already started, go back and finish it. (please) (I said please!)

If you haven’t… consider this your official (and very hungry) reminder.

Take a few minutes and complete the survey now… and maybe I’ll finally get that snack. I love cheese! 🧀

🐾 Charlie here, Chief Happiness Officer… and I’ve got a very important job.
My goal is to keep everyone happy—and that includes making sure nonprofits have the data they need to support their teams. MNA's compensation & benefits survey closes in just a few days, and I’d really love to see you finish it before June 12.
If you already started, this is your friendly reminder to jump back in and wrap it up. If not, there’s still time!

Take a few minutes and complete the survey—I promise it’ll make me (and a whole lot of nonprofits) very happy 🐾

"Tracker here, Chief Fetch Officer… and I’m running out of time.
I’ve been trying to fetch your survey response, but the June 12 deadline is almost here. WHEW, you're cutting it WAY TOO CLOSE. If you haven’t finished MNA's compensation and benefits survey yet, now’s the time. And if you started already, go back and wrap it up. (please) I know you’ve got this."

"MNA's compensation & benefits survey closes in just a few days, and I’ve officially moved from gentle asking to full-on professional begging. 🐶 If you haven’t started yet, please take a few minutes and help us out.

And if you already signed up… this is your reminder to go back and finish it. (I’ll be watching. 👀)"

Happy ! This month is a chance to celebrate, reflect, and stand up for inclusion. As Brian Hercliff-Proffer, MNA’s Community Impact Director, puts it, Pride is about lifting up LGBTQ+ voices and making sure everyone feels like they belong.

We know the world around us, from public debates to changing guidance, can affect how safe and supported people feel.

We’re proud to stand in community -- creating spaces where people feel welcome, supported, and seen. 🌈

Nonprofits do more than serve, they strengthen Michigan’s economy.

A new report released this week by MNA, Council of Michigan Foundations (CMF) and Public Sector Consultants (PSC) highlights their role as employers, community builders, and essential service providers.
