Organization Achievements and Successes:
Publication of the Heart of Michigan Parks and Trails Directory which illustrates the trails and parks of the Greater Lansing area, including trails within parks. Through MTGA's advocacy efforts, the I-275 Bikeway Restoration Project was initiated through the Michigan Department of Transportation. MTGA produced a preliminary report on the I-275 Bikeway, h
ighlighting its potential as a 43 mile connector to exiting and proposed trails in Southeast Michigan and examined the perspectives of the 13 communities along its length. With over 100 participants, each year we successfully have extended information to all legislators. Lobbied successfully for HB 4555 and 6110 and SB 1224
Advocated successfully for the final acquisition of the 41 mile Clinton-Ionia-Shiawassee Trail. Provided input on the Michigan Tourism Industry Planning Council for the production of its strategic plan and continues to serve on the Collaboration Committee for implementation of the plan. Served on the Michigan Safe Routes to School State Coalition, providing trail technical assistance to schools within the pilot program and creating a trails how-to-resource for the official manual for participating schools. Worked with Public Sector Consultants, Inc to produce Michigan Trail Maintenance Survey and Report to document the true cost of maintaining Michigan trailways. Continued to updating and publication of the state trailway map and directory, and distribution of 50.000 copies to welcome centers, bicycle shops and other venues
