Michigan Health Endowment Fund The Health Fund supports innovative projects for a healthier Michigan. The Health Endowment Fund was created through passage of Public Act 4 of 2013.

The law requires Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan to contribute up to $1.56 billion over 18 years to a Health Endowment Fund. The Fund’s purpose is to support efforts to improve the quality of health care while reducing costs and to benefit the health and wellness through funding of programs for minor children and seniors throughout the state with a significant focus on infant mortality, behavio

Wayne State University's Dr. Peter Lichtenberg has led several projects supported by the Health Fund aiming to prevent financial exploitation of older adults. His research on memory loss and changes in spending habits provides valuable insight on a complex and important aspect of healthy aging:

Produce prescription programs help individuals improve their health and manage disease by increasing their access to nutritious foods. Strong collaborations have helped a network of partners expand access to produce prescription programs across Michigan, with exciting potential opportunities for sustainability around the corner. This work brings together local food councils from across the state and includes a food systems leadership program, coaching cohorts, seed grant opportunities, and more:

Many older adults and their caregivers could benefit from Area Agencies on Aging, State Health Insurance Assistance Programs and other options for long-term services and supports. One challenge: a lack of awareness about available supports could be preventing many from accessing the help they need. The latest poll extra from the Michigan Poll on Healthy Aging shows our state is doing better in awareness of these resources than the nation as a whole, but also points out where we can improve:
