Let's make this the best year ever for our Friends Of Pool 9 raffle ticket sales that support our annual scholarships for Desoto High School and Lansing Key High. Each year Friends of Pool 9 awards $7,000 in scholarships to these two local high schools. Tickets are on sale now with an opportunity to win the $500 first prize. The winner will be drawn at our Sept. banquet in New Albin. You do not need to be present to win. Tickets can be purchased from Jerry Boardman, 563-419-7968 or any Friends Of Pool 9 board member.

The Allamakee County Conservation Board is currently taking applications for temporary full-time summer positions. Summer Conservation Technicians are an essential part of the ACCB team as we manage the busy summer season across our many parks and natural areas in Allamakee County! The application period is open until Friday, June 12th.

The positions will start July 1 and average 40 hours per week. The positions may include some evenings and weekends. Responsibilities include but are not limited to operating mowing equipment, tractor work, chainsaws, power tools, light construction, and general park maintenance. Experience in grounds maintenance or construction work is helpful. Persons pursuing an education in a natural resource field are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications are being 18 years of age, possessing a valid Iowa Driver’s License, and being eligible for coverage under the County Motor Vehicle Policy. Physical requirements include the ability to lift heavy objects, long periods of standing, bending, and reaching.

TO APPLY: Applications are available at the Auditors Office in the Allamakee County Courthouse or online on the Allamakee County website. Send completed applications to the Allamakee County Conservation Board 1944 Columbus Rd. Lansing, Iowa 52151.

Applications should be postmarked no later than Friday, June 12th, 2026.

Friends Of Pool 9 were once again honored to present the 2026 Friends Of Pool 9/Tim Loose Memorial scholarships at Desoto High School on Wednesday May 13th. A total of 4 scholarships totaling $3,500 were awarded to 4 hard working graduates. Amber Fitzgibbons will be attending UW LaCrosse. Finn Wrobel will be attending Winona State University. Abigail Kurszewski will be attending Western Technical College. Kenzie Pedretti will be attending Western Technical College. Please join us in wishing these four graduates all the best as they continue life's journey.
