Did you know you can support Friendship Bridge while doing your regular grocery shopping? Through the Kroger Family of Companies' Community Rewards program, you can designate a nonprofit to receive a portion of the amount you pay for your grocery purchases, at no additional cost to you.

Once you link your Shopper’s Card to the nonprofit of your choice, any transactions moving forward using the Shopper’s Card number associated with your digital account will be applied to the program. The Kroger Family of Companies then donates quarterly to participating organizations based on eligible spending.

Create or sign in to your King Soopers/Kroger/City Market digital account or open the grocery store’s app, and look for Community Rewards.

Nonprofits need all of us, and this is one of the easiest ways to turn everyday grocery shopping into ongoing support for missions that matter.

It's nearly impossible to put a dollar amount on volunteers in our work of empowering women an eliminating poverty in rural Guatemala. Yet, the Independent Sector and Do Good Institute recently did: They calculate that value of a volunteer hour is $36.14—a 3.9% increase from the previous year—and is especially important to America’s 1.9 million nonprofits.

At Friendship Bridge, we're grateful each day to those of you who give selflessly of your time to fundraise for women in Guatemala, ensure our operations run smoothly, help keep us organized, and ship handmade Guatemalan product orders across the country.

We know the value that you provide for us. And we've loved seeing so many of you build deep friendships through the process of volunteerism, while using your natural gifts.

If you're looking to the join the ranks of Friendship Bridge volunteers and discover that value for yourself, consider the following opportunities (remote or in our U.S. office).

✅ Arts and Humanities Coordinator: Create and execute engaging programming that is linked to Guatemala, nonprofit work, immigration, and human rights, using books, music, film, and the arts.

✅ Health for Life Activity Coordinator: Create an event in your local community to support our Health for Life program.

✅ 2027 Gala Sub Committee/Culture: Help us build a cultural activity for the 2027 in-person Gala, such as a short performance or an interactive cultural activity.

✅ Mass mailing support: Assist with large mailings in the office, including folding letters, stuffing envelopes, and stamping mail.
..And more! Contact Megan for a full list of opportunities available in the coming months: [email protected]

Our Stay-at-Home Building Bridges Gala is over, but the SoCal Friendship Bridge Circle is still creating connection and raising awareness for women in Guatemala!

Recently, members of the SoCal Circle came together for their postponed Sip and Paint gala party, hosted at Caroline Rodriguez's home in California. Oil painter Diane Grooms volunteered her time as the art instructor, leading the group by video.

The SoCal Circle reached their fundraising goal of $2500 benefiting Friendship Bridge! A special thanks to everyone who took part as coordinators, hosts, volunteers, and participants.

Recently, the Friendship Bridge U.S. staff joined the Genesee Friendship Circle in an effort to learn more about our agriculture clients. The staff introduced the Agriculture Game, which walks participants through a series of scenarios our agriculture clients might face:

✅ Buyers are in town! You make a deal to resell your produce in the city. Collect three chips.
✅ Your tomatoes haven’t ripened because too much rain created a fungus on your plants. Pay two chips.
✅ It's market day! Collect 10 chips.
✅ Your soil is depleted. Pay two chips to buy fertilizer.

Participants learned about our clients' unique situations, worked together to make decisions, and asked questions about Friendship Bridge's programs and clients. The Circle expressed a desire to keep learning and exploring about our clients, which we are honored to support!

In-class learning became real-world impact when 15 University of Denver students and two Daniels College of Business, University of Denver faculty members recently traveled to Guatemala to see Friendship Bridge's work in action. 💜

Students sat in on Trust Bank meetings, connected with the local community in Guatemala, and offered recommendations to engage a new generation of donors and volunteers. One student even walked away with a summer internship, while several others are participating in ongoing volunteer projects!

"[Students] saw firsthand that businesses can prioritize people, planet, and profit simultaneously—and that doing so is not theoretical, but operational. This is the business of better business—and students aren’t just learning it. They’re living it," said John Sebesta, Director of Entrepreneurship@DU.

👩‍🎓 Like these students, do you have a passion for creating change in impoverished communities? Consider joining our Youth Advisory Committee to help grow the next generation of Friendship Bridge supporters. Reach out to Megan for details: [email protected]

Exactly what impact will your monthly donation make for women in Guatemala?

✅ $5 a month provides Non-Formal Education to one client, covering topics related to health, women’s rights, family, and finances.

✅ $15 a month allows a nurse to travel to visit a client in her community for preventive health screenings through our Health for Life program.

✅ $30 a month allows one-on-one business mentorship for a Bridge to Success Entrepreneur client each month

✅ $40 a month delivers one Advanced Training class to clients seeking additional income-generating activities, per month

✅ $50 a month gives an agriculture client access to training with a professional agronomist each month

✅ $100 a month brings Non-Formal Education to 20 clients—an entire Trust Bank of women, or several smaller ones—learning together, every month.

When you join during the month of May, you will begin receiving never-before-seen exclusive videos of our clients recorded from the field. Plus, as a Cada Mes Club member, you’ll have the opportunity to connect with our staff on a personal level all throughout the year.

We’d be honored if you’d join us on this journey 💜 https://loom.ly/psQCMQY

✅ $15 a month allows one nurse to travel to visit a client for preventive health screenings.

What matters most about your monthly gift isn’t the amount: it’s how your consistency allows us to maximize our efforts in empowering Guatemalan women.
