Exactly what impact will your monthly donation make for women in Guatemala?

✅ $5 a month provides Non-Formal Education to one client, covering topics related to health, women’s rights, family, and finances.

✅ $15 a month allows a nurse to travel to visit a client in her community for preventive health screenings through our Health for Life program.

✅ $30 a month allows one-on-one business mentorship for a Bridge to Success Entrepreneur client each month

✅ $40 a month delivers one Advanced Training class to clients seeking additional income-generating activities, per month

✅ $50 a month gives an agriculture client access to training with a professional agronomist each month

✅ $100 a month brings Non-Formal Education to 20 clients—an entire Trust Bank of women, or several smaller ones—learning together, every month.

When you join during the month of May, you will begin receiving never-before-seen exclusive videos of our clients recorded from the field. Plus, as a Cada Mes Club member, you’ll have the opportunity to connect with our staff on a personal level all throughout the year.

We’d be honored if you’d join us on this journey 💜 https://loom.ly/psQCMQY

When it comes to ensuring our programs for a vulnerable population remain consistent, any contribution makes a genuine difference.

✅ Just $5 a month will provide Non-Formal Education to one client on topics related to health, women’s rights, family, and business.
✅ $15 a month allows one nurse to travel to visit a client for preventive health screenings.

What matters most about your monthly gift isn’t the amount: it’s how your consistency allows us to maximize our efforts in empowering Guatemalan women.

Will you donate by May 31? https://loom.ly/psQCMQY

For nearly 30 years, Friendship Bridge has been in the business of building trust.

✅ We trust that Indigenous Maya women with low incomes can responsibly pay back the small loans we issue them, even when traditional banks see them as too risky. And they do—at a nearly 97% or higher repayment rate each year.

✅ Our clients trust that we responsibly manage our finances for the betterment of their communities in Guatemala. And we do. In total, nearly 92% of our funds were reinvested directly back into our clients.

✅ You trust that donations given to Friendship Bridge are used wisely. And they are: All donations we receive go to support our Microcredit Plus programs, so more women can participate in Non-Formal Education and access to culturally-appropriate healthcare.

There’s one more way you can help us develop greater trust in rural Guatemala: join our monthly giving community in the month of May.

When you make a monthly gift, your support—at any amount—ensures consistency for our clients. They can trust that in the complicated, ever-continuing work of poverty elimination and women's empowerment, the services they receive will still be there for years to come.

It was an honor to have a presence in Washington D.C. at the Embassy of Guatemala in the U.S. early this month for , a festival that showcases the city's thriving international diplomatic community and diverse cultures. Special thanks to our volunteers who represented Friendship Bridge at the event—so many individuals who had not heard of Friendship Bridge before showed an interest in our work as a result.

We’re grateful for Embajada de Guatemala en Estados Unidos opening their doors to connect Guatemala with new communities committed to creating lasting change.

Betty Lynn first traveled to Guatemala in 2008, where she learned about the country and its tragic history: After Spanish explorers conquered the region in the 16th century, the Indigenous Maya became slaves in their homeland.

Inequality continued for centuries, and from 1960-1996, more than 200,000 individuals lost their lives during the Guatemalan Civil War. The 36-year armed conflict characterized by abductions, violence, and the dumping of bodies in mass graves was particularly harmful to women and the Indigenous Maya. The war devastated Guatemala’s economy.

When she returned home, Betty Lynn decided to take action as a result of what she learned. This led her to Friendship Bridge, where she has been a faithful supporter for 20 years.

“Being part of Friendship Bridge has opened me up to even more understanding of discrimination in my own country. My connection with humanity is stronger, which is the ultimate gift Friendship Bridge has helped create,” says Betty Lynn.

This May, we invite you to join Betty Lynn in strengthening this connection to humanity by becoming a monthly donor in our Cada Mes Club. When you sign up this month, you’ll help us reach our goal of 11 new monthly supporters for the ongoing wellbeing of our clients. You'll also receive an exclusive client video each month, directly to your inbox.

Every monthly commitment, big or small, helps strengthen consistency for our clients' journeys, as they rebuild what violence took away. Will you join our monthly giving community? https://loom.ly/psQCMQY

There's nothing like music to bring people together, while also benefiting women in Guatemala. Last night, the Foothills and Evergreen Friendship Circles and friends gathered for a folk music sing-along fundraiser for Friendship Bridge! 🎵 🪕

Attendees also got to learn about the nyckelharpa and the tongue drum, purchase plants, shop for Handmade by Friendship Bridge® products, enjoy desserts and drinks, and have the chance to win a door prize.

Special thanks to Patrick Hiester on guitar, Steve Remmert on mandolin, and Molly Niven and Michelle O'Laughlin for organizing the event.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💜
We believe that women in Guatemala deserve the chance to heal, be heard, and know they do not have to suffer alone. That's why we are committed to expanding mental health services for our clients.

As our clients face the ongoing effects of poverty and corruption following decades of civil war, we know the need is great. Yet in Guatemala, access to mental health support remains limited due to both cultural barriers and a lack of available infrastructure.

To address this need, Friendship Bridge includes mental health awareness and risks as part of our monthly Non-Formal Education program.

In addition, we offer individual telehealth appointments in both Spanish and K’iche’ to clients who request it, on topics including anxiety, grief, family stress, and emotional healing, thanks to our ongoing collaboration with Tu Consejería.

Because when our clients' emotional health is stronger, we know that greater resilience, empowerment, and business development will follow.

⏳ We know that creating real change takes patience, time, and consistent work. And we see the results that consistency drives:

• Clients saw a 27% reduction in poverty rates from 2021-2025.
• Bridge to Success participants in the program for more than one year have doubled their profits and sales, on average.
• Non-Formal Education reached 25,000 women in Guatemala last year.

How can you help ensure our clients' progress remains consistent? By joining the Cada Mes Club.

Cada Mes—meaning “every month” in Spanish—is the name of our monthly giving program. It’s an essential tool for the continued success of women in Guatemala.

When you commit to giving monthly, you'll stay connected to a community of people who understand that real change isn’t built overnight. It’s built consistently, together. And your impact will keep moving, even when life gets busy.

📈 Our goal during May is to have 11 new Cada Mes members join the club. Commit to consistent giving this month, and you'll receive:

• Brand-new, exclusive videos of our clients recorded from the field, showing them working, collaborating, and progressing, starting in June
• An annual gift from our Handmade by Friendship Bridge® artisan clients, mailed to your home near the end of each year
• Personal outreach from our staff, informing you about how your contribution is making a difference
