The Action Center Since 1968 The Action Center has been a lifeline of care and support to those facing hardship.

The Action Center’s mission is to provide an immediate and compassionate response to those in our community experiencing hardship and by offering the resources and services needed to stabilize lives and promote pathways to lasting change. Based in Lakewood, The Action Center meets people where they are, offering resources and services to stabilize lives and achieve lasting change. A dedicated staff, thousands of passionate volunteers, and on-site community partners put the mission to work every day providing food, clothing, personal care items, rent and utility assistance, and resources that help residents of Jefferson County and those experiencing homelessness thrive. The Action Center can help stretch budgets further with FREE resources for those in need. Some of the organization's resources include (when available):

Every morning, while most of the city is still waking up, Mario is already on the road, rescuing fresh food from local grocery stores and bringing it back to The Action Center. 🍎🚚

As our Product Operations Coordinator, Mario helps turn food that might otherwise go to waste into meals for neighbors experiencing hardship. But for him, the best part of the job is the people he meets along the way. After four years with the Action Center, he’s built lasting relationships with grocery store partners, volunteers, coworkers, and community members.

For Mario, this work is personal. Having grown up relying on a food bank himself, he knows what it means to have a little extra support when times are tough. ❤️

This year, the Action Center’s Holiday Gift Program is giving families something meaningful: choice. Each eligible child will receive a gift card, letting parents and caregivers choose a gift that fits their child’s interests, personality, and needs. Donate today!

🥕 Everyday Eats: Visits the first Wednesday of each month to provide healthy food staples for qualifying Coloradans age 60+.
🐾 Colorado Pet Pantry: Stops by on the fourth Wednesday of each month to offer free pet food for families in need.
🏥 Health Care Support: Local organizations provide clear guidance and helpful tools to support you in navigating health care and related costs.

This year, the Action Center’s Holiday Gift Program is giving families more flexibility with The Gift of Choice. Instead of our traditional sponsor-a-family model, each eligible child will receive a Target gift card, letting parents and caregivers choose a gift that’s just right for their child.

💜 Meet Allison Taggart, our Director of Programs!

Allison helps connect the dots across our programs, staff, and community partners to make sure we’re meeting the needs of our Jefferson County neighbors. A Lakewood resident and mom of two Jeffco students, Allison first connected with the Action Center during the pandemic through a local food task force before joining our team. Today, she works across programs including Immediate Needs, Supportive Programs, Volunteers, Product Operations, and the Food Hub, while also helping shape the future of our services at Daylight Collective.

We’re grateful for the care, collaboration, and community-focused perspective Allison brings to the Action Center every day. We’re excited to introduce you to more of the people behind the work and the many ways they help make our community stronger. 💜
