MTB TRAIL CONDITIONS REPORT 06/12/2026

Dewey closes again; Kid's Ride Sunday at EBCT; Work parties next week.

โŒ Dewey Mountain Recreation Center trails go from yellow to red. Ahh, the dance of spring (summer?) trail conditions. Please avoid until it has a chance to dry out and firm up. With rain in the forecast, it may not be ready for traffic again for another week (or more). Thank you for being patient with our most stubborn riding area -- your restraint protects the trails.

We also have some fun events on the horizon:
๐Ÿšด Kids' Summer MTB Ride at East Branch Community Trails, 4pm-5:30pm on Sunday, 6/14 led by Bill Frazer and Kaley Basile.
โ›๏ธ Trail Work Party at Craig Wood, Lake Placid 5:00-8:00pm on Monday, 06/15 sponsored by Placid Planet Bicycles.
โ›๏ธ Trail Work Party at Blueberry Hill, Elizabethtown 4:30-7:30pm on Tuesday, 06/16 sponsored by Solace Cycles
๐Ÿšด Slow Your Roll Ride at Cobble Hill, Elizabethtown 5:30-8pm on Monday, 6/22 led by a solid crew of BETA board members.
๐Ÿ“† Check out the full list of events on our website.

Have an awesome weekend everyone!

Can we get a round of applause for the crew at Dewey Mountain Recreation Center on Saturday?

Scooping out the saturated organic soil from stubborn wet spots on the climbing trail, replacing it with new mineral soil, setting retaining rocks, and digging out drainage took the whole crew. Compared to the bugs and the heat and the rain, the work itself was a breeze ๐Ÿ˜…

Thank you so much to all the folks who joined us to work on this project. We got a lot of work done thanks to all your help. This work party was sponsored by Silver Birch Cycles -- thank you Silver Birch!

Also -- shout out to Matt and Vlad from for making the trek up from Albany! As folks who don't live around here and don't mountain bike, it was especially touching that you'd take the time to lend a hand. Best of luck in your endeavors with your hiker-focused business.

Want in on the volunteer fun? Join us next week at Craig Wood or Blueberry Hill on Monday or Tuesday, respectively. Register at bit.ly/BETAvolunteer

The Hardy Road volunteer trail work party on Saturday, National Trails Day, was awesome. These volunteers were a MACHINE! Their skill and tenacity made easy work of the berms that we rebuilt on Lost Farm, one of the lower trails in the network.

Lot of hauling, lots of digging, lots of teamwork. It is shocking how much work and material it takes to tackle projects like this. Thank you so much to all the people who came out -- your help made a huge difference in what we were able to accomplish. That's community and stewardship for ya โค

Mid-day we took a break to enjoy sandwiches from this work party's sponsor: Little Supermarket. As a small family-owned business with a long history in Wilmington, it is quite the community staple. Next time you're headed to Hardy, Three Sisters, Flume, or Poor Man's Downhill, we highly encourage taking a pit stop at Little Super to fuel up (your car, your body, your spirit -- they have it all). Thank you Little Super for sponsoring this work party!

PC: These awesome pictures were taken by Connie Prickett, one of our incredible Board Members. Thank you Connie!

๐Ÿ“ธ9: Dusty, BETA's Trail Coordinator, arranging a rock retention border to support the berm.

THANK YOU EVERYONE for all your help!

If you've ridden at the Flume recently, you may have noticed that some of the bog bridges could use a bit of attention.

Early last week, Trails Coordinator Dusty broke away from working at Blueberry Hill, Elizabethtown to join Executive Director Glenn at the Flume, Wilmington. The picture on this post is from that visit.

They took a close look at each of these bog bridges to identify priority projects and get a better sense for the materials necessary for the work, some of the first steps to repairing or replacing them later this season. Can't wait to share transformation pictures after the work is done.

Trail projects like this are a crucial part of BETA's work in the region to not only build, but to maintain the trails we know and love.

SLOW YOUR ROLL RIDES are BACK!

Our first ride is just two days away:
๐Ÿ“† Wednesday, June 10th
๐Ÿ“ East Branch Community Trails, Keene, NY
โฐ Meet at 5:30pm, ride will end around 7:00pm (+/- 30 min)
๐Ÿ“ Register for rides at www.bit.ly/SYRR26

NO DROP | CASUAL PACE | SMILES OVER MILES
These rides are perfect for folks who are newer to mountain biking, just getting back into it after an injury, or still shaking off the winter sleepies. No judgement -- if we're not there right now, we've certainly been there. See new trails, meet new people, and get outside in the great Adirondacks this season by joining us for a fun ride and a hang out session at the trailhead afterwards.

Notes:
๐Ÿ“ถโŒ Service at the East Branch trailhead is practically non-existent.
๐Ÿ”Œโœ… E-bikes are ALLOWED at East Branch, Cobble Hill, and Craig Wood.
๐Ÿ”ŒโŒ E-bikes are PROHIBITED at Hardy Road and Fowler's Crossing.

Picture was taken during the Cobble Hill SYRR last year by Kaley Basile, one of the ride leaders.

MTB TRAIL CONDITIONS REPORT 06/05/2026

โš ๏ธ Dewey Mountain goes from red to yellow. Was just searching around a little to see if Dewey was named after a person and learned that it used to be called Ring Hill. Not sure what inspired the name change but of the two options Dewey seems like the best fit.

Rain is in the forecast so please remember:
1๏ธโƒฃ Avoid riding while it's actively raining.
2๏ธโƒฃ Turn back if you're leaving tracks (footprints or ruts).
3๏ธโƒฃ Avoid trail tread widening by riding or hiking straight through puddles instead of around them.

๐Ÿ‚ Volunteers are still working away at clearing blowdown as needed and leaf blowing the last few trails. As always, major thanks to all the folks across our region who take the time to make the trails as enjoyable and safe as possible. Not all heroes wear capes, but some of them wear chainsaw PPE.

We also have some fun events on the horizon:
โ›๏ธ Trail Work Party at Hardy Road 9am-3pm on Saturday, 6/06 sponsored by Little Supermarket.
โ›๏ธ Trail Work Party at Dewey Mtn 2pm-5pm on Saturday, 6/06 sponsored by Silver Birch Cycles.
๐Ÿšด Slow Your Roll Ride at East Branch Community Trails 5:30-8pm on Wednesday, 6/10 led by a solid crew of BETA board members.
๐Ÿšด Kids' Summer MTB Ride at East Branch Community Trails, 4pm-5:30pm on Sunday, 6/14 led by Bill Frazer and Kaley Basile.

We have two work parties on the docket:

Hardy Road, Wilmington
9AM-3PM
This work party is sponsored by Little Supermarket -- thank you Little Super! Hardy Road gets a lot of wear and tear and it deserves a lot of love, too. We'll be tuning up the berms on Lost Farm, which is one of the lower trails. Come on out to give back to this classic Adirondack mtb trail network.

Dewey Mountain, Saranac Lake
2PM-5PM
This work party is sponsored by Silver Birch Cycles -- thank you Silver Birch! Help us address some of the problem wet spots on our wettest network, the aptly-named Dewey Mountain Recreation Center. This work party will involve more hiking than the morning session, but it will also have more fire. Stick around after the work for a campfire down by the main lodge.
