Last Thursday, the La Mirada Coordinating Council gathered for another meaningful meeting filled with connection, collaboration, and community updates. ๐
We were excited to welcome Adriana Spiriscu, a Green Hills resident, who shared about the neighborhoodโs beloved 4th of July Block Parade happening at 10:00 AMโand this year will be extra special as we celebrate our countryโs 250th anniversary! ๐บ๐ธ She warmly invited the community to come out and join the celebration.
We also welcomed a new member, Russ Ingram with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saintsโso glad to have you with us!
Throughout the meeting, organizations shared incredible ways they are serving our city:
โจ Grace EV Free Church โ โAdventure Weekโ Vacation Bible School (June 15โ19, 6:00โ8:15 PM), open to the public, plus their weekly Friday food bank (no food bank the week of VBS).
โจ Straight Talk Counseling โ Expanding online groups, plus a summer adult workshop focused on grounding & coping skills, and a leadership-focused summer camp at Neff Park.
โจ City of La Mirada โ Newly launched website (lamirada.gov ๐), a June 6th celebration (6โ9 PM) with a drone air show, summer concerts returning but at a new Neff Park location, and updates on city projects.
โจ La Mirada Chamber of Commerce โ Cinco de Mayo Breakfast on May 5 (La Casa del Cocinero), and a golf tournament coming October 19.
โจ Kiwanis Club โ Raised $2,600 through Quartermania, ongoing support for schools, and volunteers needed for July 1โ4 fireworks booths.
โจ La Mirada Community Foundation โ Estate planning classes helped 25 adults
โจPTA Founders Day is April 28.
โจ Temple Beth Ohr โ Celebrating 70 years in La Mirada and sharing upcoming concert June 14th at Temple Beth Long Beach.
โจ La Mirada Veterans Coordinating Council โ Memorial Day Ceremony on May 25 at 10 AM (Civic Center Plaza); seeking wreath sponsors.
โจ Neighborhood Life Church โ Fatherโs Day BBQ (June 21) and Vacation Bible School (June 23โ26).
โจ Friends of the La Mirada Library โ Shared their Book Sale was on Saturday!
โจ La Mirada Arts Colony โ Honored with the Millie Taylor Community Award and hosting an art demo May 4.
โจ Love La Mirada โ Foster Park Neighborhood BBQ (May 14), Sunset Yoga in the Park (June 20 at 6:45 PM), and upcoming service opportunities including a summer mini Day of Service.
โจ VFW โ Breakfast coming up on May 3.
โจ The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints โ Upcoming temple open house in Yorba Linda on April 30.
So much good is happening across our city. Itโs always inspiring to see organizations working together, sharing resources, and strengthening our community.
We truly are better together. ๐
