❤️ Still going!! And these projects have sooo much cuteness!

Today we’re spotlighting a whole BUNDLE of projects that brought together Girl Scouts, Biola University students, and community volunteers to help seniors in one of our local senior communities! 🥰

And boy, did they WORK!

These volunteers went house to house, helping seniors with all sorts of things that had become difficult for them to manage on their own.

We helped almost 20 homes with these projects.

They cleaned and decluttered, moved heavy items out for bulk trash pickup, power washed homes, pulled weeds, laid mulch, and tackled TONS of overgrown ivy that had made its way over a wall into a neighboring commercial property. The seniors were even at risk of being fined if it wasn’t taken care of!

These volunteers, big and small, got their hands dirty, worked up a sweat, and worked HARD! 💪

We all know ~ projects like these are about so much more than yard work and cleaning. ❤️

A HUGE thank you to our wonderful Girl Scouts, Biola students, and everyone who helped make these projects happen!

You loved your neighbors well. ❤️

🌸 PROJECT SPOTLIGHT! 💐

This one was just so sweet! ❤️

Our “Bloom Together” project brought volunteers together to create beautiful bouquets of fresh flowers for seniors in our community!

Bouquet after bouquet was lovingly arranged, each with a little note attached that read:

“You are valued, you are loved. You make our community brighter!” ❤️

The seniors were absolutely thrilled to receive their flowers! 🥹💕

Sometimes the simplest gestures can mean so much. A little bouquet of flowers can remind someone that they’re thought of, appreciated, and loved by their community.

A HUGE thank you to Paloma Gonzalez with Brighter Happy Life, who generously sponsored the entire project and did such a wonderful job leading it!

And to all of the volunteers who helped create and share these beautiful bouquets, THANK YOU!

Just another beautiful example of neighbors loving on neighbors. 🌸❤️

🎄 Well, Halloween is officially behind us, so I guess we can start talking about Christmas… which will now be here in a blink of an eye! 😃❤️

Just sharing a little holiday heads-up..

Our local LM Home Depot is now taking pre-orders for holiday poinsettias! 🌺

If you usually buy poinsettias to decorate your home, church, office, or business, this might be helpful!

You can order ahead and have one less thing to worry about as the holidays get closer, especially if you’re concerned about them selling out. (see post comment for size/cost options)

The store manager at our La Mirada Home Depot has been sooo good to Love La Mirada, and we’re happy to help spread the word and show a little appreciation in return! ❤️

❤️ Ready for another Project Spotlight?! 🥰

PROJECT 15 – Cooking with Cathy! 👩‍🍳❤️

This one was made with a whole lot of LOVE… and some really good food!!

Led by the wonderful Cathy Alvarez (who is an AMAZING cook and baker!), community volunteers came together to learn how to make Cathy’s delicious enchiladas, rice and beans, all while preparing homemade meals for La Mirada seniors!

And boy, did they cook!!

🍽️ 200 enchiladas!! Plus rice, beans, chips and Cathy’s homemade salsa!

Volunteers cooked, prepped and packaged everything up for our local seniors to enjoy.

And because Cathy is just the sweetest, she even baked her famous homemade cookies the night before! 🍪❤️ If you know Cathy, you know she loves sharing her sweet treats!

For some of our seniors, preparing a home-cooked meal isn’t as easy as it once was. Whether it’s physical limitations, living alone, or simply not having the energy to cook, a delicious homemade meal can be such a special treat.

And knowing that someone in their community took the time to prepare it just for them makes it even sweeter. ❤️

It’s comfort, kindness, and a reminder that they are cared for.

❤️ La Mirada, who wants to help serve our neighbors this Thanksgiving season? 🦃🍂

Our wonderful Love La Mirada board member, Pastor David Newman, and his church, Neighborhood Life Church, are hosting a FREE Neighborhood Dinner on Friday, November 20th, and they’re looking for community volunteers to help make it happen!

🙌 30 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

They have three opportunities to help:

🍂 4:30 PM – Set-Up Crew (10 volunteers)
Help arrange tables, chairs, and prepare the space.

🍽️ 6:30 PM – Serving Crew (10 volunteers)
Help serve dinner and welcome neighbors!

🧹 8:00 PM – Clean-Up Crew (10 volunteers)
Help put away tables, chairs, and clean up.

🚒🚓❤️ Today, on National First Responders Day, we thought it was the perfect day to spotlight another one of our Love La Mirada Day of Service projects!

This one was all about showing a little love and appreciation to the people who show up bravely for our community every single day. ❤️

Community volunteers came together to wash the personal and work vehicles of our local first responders, both on and off duty! 🚗🧽🫧

It was a simple gesture, really. A free car wash, some coffee and donuts, a few friendly conversations, and an opportunity to say THANK YOU!

A HUGE thank you to “The Car Wash” and the two wonderful local first responders who stepped up to lead this project, and to all of our volunteers who came out to help make it happen!

And a special thank you to the volunteers who made our wonderful appreciation posters! ❤️

And to ALL of our first responders, thank you. ❤️

When others are running away from danger, you're the ones running toward it. You show up on people's worst days, often putting your own safety at risk to protect people you've never even met.

We see you. We appreciate you. And we hope this little gesture of kindness reminds you just how much you mean to our community. ❤️

❤️ Another PROJECT SPOTLIGHT! – A Ride Forward for the Unhoused 🚌

This year, for the first time, we included a few “At Home” projects in our Day of Service, giving people an opportunity to make a difference even if they couldn’t come out and volunteer that Saturday.

And this was one of those projects! ❤️

Something many people may not realize is that our city has an INCREDIBLE homeless outreach liaison. She is AMAZING at what she does! She is out in our community every week, building relationships with individuals experiencing homelessness, connecting them with resources, and working tirelessly to help them accept services and move into housing.

And she has had some wonderful successes!

But getting someone to accept help isn’t always easy. There are so many reasons someone may be hesitant to leave the streets, even when housing and services are available.

So we asked Lorine a simple question: “What could we provide that would help you be even more successful?”

One of her answers was transportation.

You see, some of the housing and programs that meet an individual’s specific needs are located in neighboring cities. And for someone who has spent years living independently, the thought of losing their freedom to come and go, visit familiar places, or stay connected to people and services they know can be a real concern.

Sometimes, something as simple as knowing they can get back to La Mirada makes a difference in their willingness to accept help.

That’s where TAP transit cards come in! 🚌

By providing these cards to her, we’re giving her one more tool to help remove a barrier between someone experiencing homelessness and the services that could change their life.

And thanks to our generous community, we giving HUNDREDS of dollars in TAP cards to her! ❤️

We also want to give a HUGE thank you to Anea Nutrition , who donated 100 packs of protein powder packets to support the outreach efforts! What a thoughtful contribution!

❤️ AND WE’RE NOT DONE YET!

We’re continuing to collect TAP cards NOW THROUGH THANKSGIVING!**

TAP cards can be purchased at **Walgreens in La Mirada** and dropped off locally with one of our Love La Mirada board members.

❤️ La Mirada, this is one of those moments when our community can come together and simply be there for one another.

A family has lost a husband and father. A softball team has lost their coach. And an entire league is grieving someone who meant so much to so many.

This Thursday evening, our community is invited to come together at Behringer Park to remember and celebrate the life of Danny Bennett.

If you’re able, come. Hold a candle. Stand alongside this family, these young athletes, and their softball community. You don’t need to know them personally to show them they’re not alone.

And even if you can’t attend, perhaps you’re driving by the park that evening. Take a moment to pause, hold some space in your heart for this family, and send a little love their way.

Sometimes showing up is all we can do. And sometimes, just knowing your community is standing beside you can mean so much. ❤️

There is also a GoFundMe to support Danny’s family, which we’ve shared in our story for anyone who would like to help.

Let’s surround this family and our softball community with love, La Mirada. 🕊️

❤️ Another PROJECT SPOTLIGHT! 🚒

This project was all about showing some love and appreciation to our local firefighters!

Led by the fabulous Martin Aguilera, community volunteers came together to give two outdoor sheds at Fire Station 49 a fresh coat of paint!

And what made this project even better? The firefighters and Captain Dombrowski rolled up their sleeves and painted right alongside our volunteers! ❤️

Young and old, firefighters and neighbors, all working side by side.

Our firefighters do so much for our community, and it was wonderful to have an opportunity to do something for THEM.

A huge THANK YOU to Martin for doing such a fabulous job leading this project, and to every volunteer who showed up to help!

❤️ We were at Behringer Park today and spotted Hello Kitty enjoying the freshly painted horse trails! 😄🎀🐴 So we figured today would be the perfect day to spotlight this project!

❤️TODAY’S PROJECT SPOTLIGHT! ❤️

A wonderful team from Heights Christian School came together for our Day of Service and gave the horse trail fencing at Behringer Park a much-needed refresh. And it looks fantastic!! 👏🏼

A HUGE thank you to Principal Troy Kimura and Lori Way for doing such a wonderful job leading this project, and to all the students and volunteers who showed up and worked so hard! 🙌🏼 You got so much accomplished!
