This week during our Kilgore Rotary Club meeting we had the honor of welcoming Randy Seitz and Misty Ryan to our club membership. Randy is the new Director of the Kilgore Economic Development Corporation and Misty is the Code Enforcement person for the City of Kilgore. In addition we heard from Staci Martin about all things Kilgore College. We encourage anyone who might be interested in what is happening at KC to please contact the College. You will receive a great education and a vibrant college experience.

We always have great speakers at Kilgore Rotary Club and our meeting this week certainly did not disappoint. Kaylyn and Lucy Berryman spoke to us about Youth With A Mission (YWAM). This organization is very busy with outreach in many directions. I have included a small section of the mission:
Youth With a Mission is an international missions organization with the goal of fulfilling the great
commission by making Jesus known in every place in the world. YWAM has missionaries in
every country in the world, and sends out over 25,000 short term missionaries every year.
YWAM focuses on training and sending youth, but there are people of all ages as well who work
with YWAM full time. All missionaries with YWAM are supported, not paid.
Needless to say we were all moved by the presentation.

It was a great day at the Kilgore Rotary Club, during our weekly meeting the officers of the new Kilgore High School Interact Club. PDG Karen Mains had the honor of installing the officers:

Rotary Club of Kilgore hosted Camp Gilmont Executive Director Kenny Rigoulot and Event Coordinator Elizabeth Amaroufi.
We learned of the Camp Gilmont mission, the upcoming camp sessions and exciting events.
Battle of the Bags Corn Hole Tourny enters its fifth year and is a major fund raiser for Camp Gilmont to continue to serve others in Christian love. This year the event is held in conjuction with the highly anticipated Ribbon Cutting for the new Spradlin Lodge and Welcome Center, named for long time Kilgore Mayor and dedicated community servant Ronnie Spradlin. Kilgore Rotary Club met Roger Askew this week. He is currently Gregg County Pct 2 Constable. And thats cool, but whats really cool is how he got there.
Graduating High School in 1988 Roger always wanted to be a Cowboy. Dad thought college was a better idea, well... his professional bull riding career began
In 2000. After some success and a few injuries, Roger said goodbye to the livestock and became a Longview Police Officer. Wanting to make a difference in young people's lives:
2005 School resource officer at PT jr high
2009 School Resource officer at Spring Hill
Realizing he had to make connections to be effective, Roger came up with some quite creative ideas as to how to get the attention, as well as the respect of hundreds of kids in the schools he served.
Officer Askew retired from Longview police dept in 2022 and here we are back in Gregg County.
2022 Gregg Co Constable Pct 2 .. whew! As any bull rider will tell you, 8 seconds is longer than you think and we are still waiting for the buzzer to sound..

Zapatos nuevos para la escuela
24 y 25 de julio de 2026

El Club Rotario de Kilgore cree que todos los niños deben tener un nuevo par de zapatos y calcetines para usar el primer día de clases. Los estudiantes que califiquen pueden recibir un nuevo par de zapatos y calcetines. Si su familia recibe beneficios de SNAP, Medicaid, SSI o el Programa Nacional de Almuerzos Escolares, sus hijos calificarán para recibir zapatos.

Los zapatos se distribuirán el viernes 25 de julio de 2024 de 8:30 a. m. a 4:00 p. m. y el sábado 26 de julio de 2024 de 8:30 a. m. a 12:00 del mediodia. La distribución se llevará a cabo en St. Luke's Methodist Church en el Family Center. Ingresará al edificio de St. Luke's Methodist Church desde 401 E Main St. Habrá carteles para mostrar la entrada.
Los zapatos se distribuirán a cada estudiante calificado en los grados de Pre-K a 12º grado. Cada niño que necesite zapatos debe estar presente para medir y garantizar el tamaño correcto. Los padres/tutores deben acompañar a los niños del mismo grupo familiar.

Necesitara estacionarse frente a la iglesia o en el pequeno estacionamiento frente al Centro de Actividades.

Se empleará un protocolo de seguridad, que incluye desinfectante de manos y toallitas desinfectantes.
