Support Kaua‘i’s Innovation Grant Project – Deadline Sept. 19 at 4pm!

Please take a moment today to support Hawai‘i Farmers Union’s project application to Kaua‘i County’s Innovation Grant. Public comment closes FRIDAY, Sept. 19 at 4:00 p.m. Our HFU Kaua‘i Chapter, in partnership with the Hawai‘i ‘Ulu Co-op, has applied for funding to expand a new ‘ulu processing site at the Pineapple Store in Hanamā‘ulu.

This project will:
Increase processing capacity for ‘ulu to support Kaua‘i farmers and other growers.
Launch new coconut processing operations, providing a market for niu, making coconut foods more accessible, and helping address CRB through education and resource connection.

✅ How To Support:

Create a quick account.
Leave your support and comments for the project titled: “Expansion of certified processing of ‘ulu and establish baseline processing capacity for niu on Kaua‘i.”

✨We are excited to invite you to our upcoming hfuu workshop focusing on citrus pruning and care hosted by CTAHR wailua ag station at 10 am, august 17th!
✨The workshop will be led by David Whatmore who is a wealth of knowledge and experience in fruit farming. He has 40 years of experience in tending a 2.5 acre citrus orchard with 500 close spaced trees on the north shore of kaua’i. David uses an evidence based approach as a scientist, and is constantly learning. He has also studied with top experts in California and Florida while farming here.
✨Our workshop will touch upon fertilizing, variety selection, grafting, as well as citrus diseases and pests because these are crucial to be aware of.
✨This event is free of charge for current hfuu members, and 20$ for non members. New members are welcomed the day of workshop. No rsvp required.
✨There will be a locally powered lunch provided for everyone, as well as a limited supply of fresh trifoliata seeds. Trifoliata is widely used for citrus rootstock as it offers disease resistance, particularly to citrus nematodes and phytophera and performs well in heavier clay and loamy soils.

Directions: 7370 kuamo’o road, wailua.
