Hurricane Lowell remains a powerful Category 4 hurricane located about 450 miles south-southwest of Hilo and 605 miles south-southeast of Lihue, Hawaii. Forecasts indicate Lowell could be at or near major hurricane strength when it moves near the westernmost main Hawaiian Islands late Monday and Monday night. While it is still too soon to determine the exact track, Lowell could bring storm surge, strong winds, and heavy rainfall to portions of Hawaii early next week.

However, a northward turn is possible over the weekend, and there remains considerable uncertainty about the timing and extent of that turn.

Tropical Storm Moke has slightly weakened with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph and will pass south of Hawaii today.

Moke will begin to impact the Big Island early Sunday morning with heavy rain. Rain will then spread westward across the remainder of the Hawaiian Islands through Monday. This rainfall may produce life-threatening flooding and mudslides for the windward and southeast Big Island, especially in steep terrain and over areas that were affected recently by Lala.

Although the strongest winds associated with Moke are expected to pass south of the Hawaiian Islands, strong gusty winds are likely, particularly in areas within and downslope of higher terrain. Swells generated by the storm may cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions through early next week for exposed east and south facing shores of the Hawaiian Islands.

Tropical Storm Moke has strengthened slightly today with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph and continues to move west-northwest toward the Hawaiian Islands today.

Moke will begin to impact the Big Island late tonight with heavy rain and will spread westward across the remainder of the Hawaiian Islands Sunday into Monday. This rainfall may produce life-threatening flooding and mudslides for the windward and southeast Big Island, especially in steep terrain and over areas that were affected recently by Lala.

Although the strongest winds associated with Moke are expected to pass south of the Hawaii, strong gusty winds are likely, particularly in areas within and downslope of higher terrain. Swells generated by the storm may cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions through early next week for exposed east and south facing shores.

Tropical Depression Two-C has formed southeast of Hawaii and is forecasted to strengthen into a tropical storm by Friday as it moves south of the Hawaiian Islands this weekend. It’s still too soon to specify the exact location and magnitude of impacts, so closely monitor and ensure your preparedness plans are in place.

Heavy rainfall associated with this tropical system is expected to begin to impact the Big Island of Hawaii late Saturday night, spreading westward across the remainder of the Hawaiian Islands Sunday into Monday. This rainfall may produce life-threatening flooding and mudslides, especially in steep terrain and over areas that were affected recently by Lala. There is a risk of wind and wave impacts in Hawaii regardless of the exact track and intensity of the system. Watches may be issued for portions of Hawaii tonight or Friday.
