Women in Technology

Women in Technology The Women in Technology Project is a program of the Maui Economic Development Board, Inc., a nonprofit organization.

In 1999, the Maui Economic Development Board (MEDB) created the Women in Technology (WIT) Project to work in partnership with educators and businesses to build and strengthen Hawaii’s science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education-to-workforce pipeline. Women in Tech is part of MEDB's 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. It was established in 1982 to initially focus on diversifying Maui’s

economy. At the time of MEDB’s formation, Maui’s economy was dependent on agriculture and tourism, both of which were vulnerable to forces beyond the community’s control. MEDB’s mission now involves taking innovative actions that strengthen existing industry as well as diversifying through new opportunities.

Empowering Young Women in STEM and Beyond: The Excite Camp Journey!
It’s the ultimate STEM camp for girls – Excite Camp! Open to middle school students (grades 7-8), the primary goal of Excite Camp is to inspire, educate and expose our island’s youth to STEM careers.

Participants have an opportunity to:

Explore Hawaiian culture past and present

Empower oneself with the latest STEM technologies and resources

Engage in fun exciting hands-on activities

Discover exciting STEM careers

Investigate and analyze scientific methods

Because of their under-representation in these fields, Native Hawaiians, girls and other minority groups are given preference.
