McCleery Equine Veterinary Service thanks for taking the best care of our beloved senior horse 🐎 Chance.

We first met Chance back in 2017, when his owner had just gotten him.

He was already considered a senior by some — and he was in rough shape, with a body condition score of just 2/9.

Today, Chance is 31. And he looks better now than he did when we first met him.

That didn't happen by simply finding the “right” feed and sticking with it. His owner has continued to adjust his care as his needs have changed.

For older horses, that can mean softer feeds and mashes, three or more meals a day to get enough calories in, softer or chopped forage when chewing becomes difficult, and regular dental exams to identify problems before they start affecting weight.

The needs of senior horses change as they age. Their care has to change with them.

Chance is a pretty great example of what that can look like. ❤️
