Being away from home can feel like a really big deal when youâre a kid.
One of our campers came to YMCA Camp Immokalee nervous about the week. She told her counselor she was scared. By the time she went home, her family told us she was so glad she had come.
She had cried sometimes. She had tried new things. And through all of it, she knew she was safe, cared for, and had someone there when she needed support.
Thatâs a version of independence we really believe in.
Growing up doesnât mean suddenly not being scared or needing anyone. Sometimes it means learning that you can say âIâm scared,â trust the people around you, and still give something new a try.
YMCA Camp Immokalee is the Safe Enough to Try Place. â¤ď¸
