Tons of healthy, fresh food is thrown into landfills in the Bay Area, CA, creating an enormous environmental problem. Yet thousands of residents worry about where their next meal is coming from. There is enough healthy food for all of us in our community, but there has been a critical, missing link between those who have it and those who need it. ExtraFood rescues excess food from any Bay Area bus

iness, school and backyard – and immediately delivers it to nonprofit partners serving our community’s most vulnerable children, seniors and families, 365 days a year and free of charge. And ExtraFood’s Community Meals program uses the excess capacity of restaurants and caterers to give freshly-made meals to people in need. Together, we can bring the day when all in our community have the food they need.

Thank you to the Share the Bounty club at Redwood High School, who harvested lemons donated by Billy in Novato. We appreciate this teams' efforts to ensure perfectly good backyard produce doesn't go to waste, and instead was redistributed to food pantries in Marin.
If you have surplus backyard or farm produce that you are willing to share with your community, go to ExtraFood.org/sharethebounty to learn how to donate.

Thank you to the boys team charity, Marin League for rescuing this incredible produce at the AIM Farmers Market! The team sorted the surplus food donated by the farmers and then redistributed it to 4 different recipient partners of ours including our SOUPer Food Kitchen where we create meals for our community.
Great teamwork!

Fresh food can make a world of difference, especially for older adults living on fixed incomes.

Thank you to Andronico's Community Markets on 32nd Avenue in San Francisco for donating this incredible haul of surplus fresh food. With the help of ExtraFood volunteer Roji, these nutritious groceries made their way to the Jackie Chan Center, where they were warmly welcomed by clients.

Many seniors face challenges accessing healthy food due to limited income, mobility issues, or rising grocery costs. Donations like these help ensure that older adults have access to fresh fruits, vegetables, and other nutritious foods that support their health and well-being.

We're grateful to Andronico's, Roji, and our community partners for helping turn surplus food into nourishment for neighbors who need it most.

Happy Pride Month! 🌈

At ExtraFood, we believe everyone deserves access to nutritious food, dignity, and a sense of belonging. This month, we celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and honor the diversity, resilience, and contributions of LGBTQ+ individuals throughout our communities.

We work alongside volunteers, food donors, and amazing recipient partners including Taimon Booton Center, Shanti Projects, The Women's Clinic Lyon-Martin and LYRIC as we build a more connected, compassionate, and food-secure future for everyone.

This Pride Month and every month, we stand for inclusion, equity, and the belief that every person deserves to be seen, valued, and supported.

🍩 Happy National Donut Day! 🍩

Thanks to our generous food donors, including Johnny Doughnuts, Donut Alley, and Bob's Donut & Pastry Shop, and dedicated volunteers like Mimi, surplus donuts are rescued and delivered to places like treatment and recovery programs where they are eagerly welcomed and enjoyed. Instead of going into the landfill, these perfectly good and tasty donuts bring happiness.

As Mimi shares: "Rescuing food for ExtraFood is really rewarding because when you walk into a facility that’s going to be receiving amazing fresh food donation, everybody is happy about it!
The best kind of rescue is donuts! I love rescuing donuts, and bringing them to places where they bring joy and glee, and a twinkle to people‘s eyes because hey, who doesn’t love donuts?
Donuts may not be the top of the list for nutrition and good health, but now and then we just want to be really really happy! I’m glad I can rescue donuts and make all kinds of people HAPPY!!!"

There’s something special about kids learning where food comes from, and where it can go to help others. 🥰

Vanessa and her sweet family recently harvested plums from their backyard for ExtraFood’s Share the Bounty program, helping ensure this beautiful fruit was shared with neighbors in the community instead of going to waste.

Share the Bounty helps rescue surplus backyard produce and redistribute it to organizations serving people facing hunger throughout our community. Every harvest, big or small, makes a difference.

Thank you, Vanessa and family, for sharing your bounty with the community!
