GoodWarrior is a program for children ages 7-14 that promotes volunteerism, philanthropy and social responsibility. We do this through organized service learning opportunities, special events and awareness campaigns. Good Warrior was conceived in 2005 as a response to the need for programs that engage children in volunteerism, philanthropy and social responsibility. Foundational character educatio
n principles are inherently central to this work, so Good Warrior is as focused on developing curriculum as it is on promoting participation. Drawing on a background in non profit program management and education, founder Ruth McDaniels had a vision of a program that would teach the whole child about values, service and change. This vision embraced the idea that children of all ages can give back in meaningful ways. With support and guidance, children can learn to identify what's important to them and to use their resources to serve others. The concept of Good Warrior has been years in the making. The current model is a designed as a pilot program for 7-14 year olds in Marin County for the 2014-15 school year.
