The Kemah Lions Club would like to thank Tony Bell and others who were involved for the great Trunk or Treat event. Over 5000 people in attendance. This event is growing larger and better every year.

The Kemah Lions are once again having a meat raffle. These funds help make it possible for the Kemah Lions to support such projects as: Pancakes with Santa, Trunk or Treat, assist with eye exams and glasses for people in need, bicycles for the Kemah PD Blue Santa. assist 25 families, at Thanksgiving, with a turkey and groceries. Several other items that may arise in which the Lions assist people in need. One ongoing project is called "the back pack program". Several Kemah Lions members take turns grocery shopping. Food items are then separated and placed into returnable bags (backpack nickname). At the present time up to 10 families (identified by school personnel) will have food sent home with the students. This helps assure that food will be available over the weekend. As you are aware groceries are expensive and this fund raiser will help the Kemah Lions continue this service which is needed. The Kemah Lions would like to thank Ms. Milan Herrington, LaVace Stewart Elementary School Nurse, for allowing club members to assist with eye screening for students. Members spend 4 hour each day for 3 days providing vison screening. Basic testing identified several students that need more comprehensive testing so that vision issues can be identified and proper actions taken. Lions will assist with this testing and assistance with glasses when needed.

Lions Clubs International is a global service organization dedicated to vision care and blindness prevention since being challenged by Helen Keller in 1925 to become "Knights of the Blind."

Core Vision Programs

• SightFirst: Launched in 1990, this signature initiative has impacted over 544 million lives, supported thousands of cataract surgeries, and built or equipped eye care centers worldwide.

• Lions KidSight: Focuses on early detection of preventable vision conditions in children from 6 months through high school using specialized handheld photo screeners.

• Sight For Kids: A school-based eye health initiative co-founded with Johnson & Johnson that screens millions of low-income students annually and provides prescription eyeglasses.

• Eyeglass Recycling: Local clubs and partners (such as Walmart Vision Centers) collect used prescription eyeglasses, clean and repair them, and distribute them to people in need.

• LCIF Vision Grants: The Lions Clubs International Foundation funds large-scale local and global projects ranging from US$10,000 to US$300,000 to improve eye care infrastructure and training.

At the October 6th meeting the Kemah Lions were joined by Spencer, our 2026 Texas Lions Camp camper, and his Father, Ms. Paulette Janak of the Bayside Lions Club and the admin staff from La Vace Stewart LaVace Stewart Elementary School.
Spencer updated the club on his week long adventures at the camp in Kerrville and some of the various activities that he had fun. Ms. Janak provided information about the Kite Flying Event at the Bayshore Park in Baycliff on October 17th. The staff from the school attended to pickup school items donated by the Iron Keel Strength and Fitness Center (Kemah) and members of the Kemah Lions Club.

The Bayside Lions are hosting a kite flying event at the Bayshore Spillway Park located at 5437 FM 646 in Baycliff. Free kites for kids, vendors and a classic car meet. Bring the family out for a fun day at the Park.

Due to tropical storm warnings the Kemah Lions Club meeting for September 1st has been cancelled. Hope that no one receives any damage and that everyone will be safe and dry.

The Kemah Lions meet the first Tuesday of each month at the Kemah Fire Station located at 905 TX-146 in Kemah. Potluck dinner at 6pm with meeting at 6:30pm. You do not have to be a resident of Kemah to be a member as we have members from several different towns. For information on some of our volunteer efforts please go to:

The Kemah Lions were proud to have a hot dog dinner for the Kemah police, EMS and the firemen. All of the personnel do a great job in serving their community.

The Kemah Lions were invited to join the Kemah Police Department in welcoming several exchange students to Kemah.
