Yesterday, the Kankakee Kiwanis Club proudly hosted the 102nd Annual Student Achievement Awards—a tradition that has been part of our club’s service legacy for more than a century!

What began in 1925 with the presentation of the High School Leadership Trophy Awards has grown into a celebration that recognizes the many ways young people lead, serve, and inspire in our community.

This year, we were honored to present:
• 8th Grade & Senior High School Leadership Awards
• High School Community Service Awards
• Arion/Sousa Awards for excellence in voice or instrumental music
• Kiwanis Scholarship Awards to outstanding graduating seniors

A heartfelt thank you to the students, families, educators, and community members who joined us—and to the dedicated Kankakee Kiwanis members who continue to carry this tradition forward.

And to the award recipients: your leadership, service, talent, and character give us hope for the future. We are proud to celebrate you!

Enjoy a look back at yesterday’s special moment!

Shoe Project Appreciation!

A heartfelt thank you to Phil Angelo, Chris Curtis Mayor - City of Kankakee, Bert Jacobson, and Mary Thomson for your wonderful assistance as we helped fit the children from Lorenzo Smith School with new shoes at Shoe Carnival. Your kindness, patience, and joyful energy made all the difference for these students.

We also extend our deep gratitude to the Shoe Carnival staff, who were incredibly accommodating and helpful throughout all three of our shoe project days this year. They measured, stickered, fitted, and checked out each child with a smile — truly going above and beyond. We are so grateful for their partnership and the care they show our community year after year.

When you stop in for shoes, please take a moment to share Kiwanis thanks.

Together, we’re improving the world one child and one community at a time.

✨ Huge Thank You to Our Amazing Volunteers! ✨

Yesterday was a wonderful day at Shoe Carnival as we fitted 40 children from the Bourbonnais Elementary Schools with brand‑new shoes and socks through our Kiwanis Shoe Project. Seeing those smiles never gets old!

A huge THANK YOU to our Kankakee Kiwanis Club members, friends, and families for buying, selling, and supporting our annual fundraiser. Your generosity fuels everything we do.

A special shout‑out to Dan Korthauer for delivering our peanuts for the military to the Support Our Troops headquarters. Acts of service like this keep our mission moving forward all year long.

Because of your support, we’re able to continue the projects that make a real difference for kids in our community, including:
• Winter Warmth Project – providing coats for local children
• Shoe Project – ensuring students in need have properly fitting shoes
• Annual High School Scholarship Program – investing in our future leaders

Now let’s keep the momentum going.

📅 Join us at our next meeting:
Monday, March 9
Noon at Beef O’Brady’s in Bourbonnais
We’ll hear an exciting update on the Riverfront Project from Bill Yohnka.

And don’t forget—
👟 Our next Shoe Project day is Friday, March 13 at Shoe Carnival.
Times needed will be announced soon. Mark your calendars to help us help the kids.

Thank you for living the Kiwanis mission: improving the world one child and one community at a time

What an incredible day of service and smiles! THANK YOU to the Kankakee Kiwanis Club volunteers who helped 65 children from Bradley East, Bradley West, and Kankakee District 111 find the perfect pair of shoes today.

The Shoe Carnival team was outstanding—measuring every child’s foot and making sure each one walked away with the right fit. Our fellow Kiwanians (and one wonderful friend!) were super shoe salespeople, proving once again how powerful our peanut and gummi bear profits can be when put to work for kids.

A heartfelt thank‑you to Phil Angelo, Bert Jacobsen, Kay Green, Duane Tucker, Mary Thomson, and friend Nancy Payne for giving your time and energy today.

And we’re not done yet! All other members will have another chance to help on March 13, when we welcome students from Bourbonnais Elementary and Lorenzo Smith School. Volunteer times will be posted by the end of next week.

Another great example of Kankakee Kiwanis living our mission of improving the world one child and one community at a time!
