Backcountry Communities Thriving

Backcountry Communities Thriving BCT is a registered nonprofit supporting Julian and the surrounding rural areas.

Backcountry Communities Thriving would like to thank all of our amazing, generous, and supportive partners, donors, volunteers, and community members for your dedication to our mission and for helping us serve the backcountry and surrounding communities.

After much consideration, we have made the difficult decision to permanently close our doors effective Monday, August 31, 2026.

Backcountry Communities Thriving, The Julian Voice, and the Backcountry Connections Thrift Shop will no longer be in operation.

We are incredibly grateful for everyone who has supported BCT throughout the years. Whether you donated, volunteered, partnered with us, shopped with us, or simply supported our mission, you helped make a difference in our community.

Thank you for being part of BCT and for supporting our backcountry communities.

Thank you, Julian and our amazing Backcountry community! ❤️

We are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support and generosity you've shown through your donations to the Backcountry Connections Thrift Shop. Because of your kindness, our donation storage areas are completely full!

At this time, we are temporarily unable to accept additional donations while we work to sort, process, and make room for everything we've already received.

We'll be sure to let everyone know as soon as we're able to begin accepting donations again.

Thank you for your patience, your understanding, and for continuing to support our mission of serving the Backcountry community. We truly couldn't do it without you!

Abigail would also like to share an update with the community:
Abigail shared: "Over the past year, I have been really grateful for all the new opportunities and experiences I have had. I recently started working as an Administrative Intern at Merced SBDC, where I am getting to know their team, helping build a stronger connection between the SBDC and UC Merced, and learning more about the finance side of their work. My friends and I also started a new club on campus called F1C: First Generation Collective, which has been really exciting to build together. I also became the Chief Recruitment Officer for the Business Society, a club I have been involved with and really enjoy being a part of. This past year, I completed my College Corps service at Merced Irrigation District where I helped with children's events and park beautification projects. I am now getting ready to begin my fourth year at UC Merced, which is both exciting and a little emotional because graduation is getting closer. After graduating, I hope to continue my education by attending graduate school and taking the next steps towards my future goals."

We are incredibly honored to receive a Community Service Award from the Julian Chamber of Commerce and the Julian Merchants Association.

Thank you for recognizing BCT’s commitment to serving the Julian community. We are also proud to share that our Executive Director was recognized with a Community Service Award for her service to our community, both through her work with BCT and through the many ways she gives back every day.

This recognition means so much to all of us. It also belongs to everyone who has supported BCT along the way—our volunteers, donors, community partners, and the many people who step up to help make Julian such a special place. We are grateful to stand beside so many amazing people who care deeply about our neighbors and our community.

Thank you again for this meaningful honor. We are proud to be part of such a caring and supportive community.

Keep Thriving, Julian! ❤️
