After thirty years serving the US and other countries, and operating since August ‘20 here in Julian, the research now backs up what common sense told us — Putting books into households with preschoolers helps build lifelong learners and lovers of reading.

Today in five local Zip Codes including Julian, 97 preschoolers are receiving free high-quality, developmentally-targeted books in the mail every month. An additional 106 Julian-area kids have graduated from the program and are enrolled in school with the advantages this recent study confirm.

Four years, 152 Julian-area preschoolers served, 3,379 books gifted!

Since early 2020, Julian Pathways, Inc. and a committee of community volunteers has been operating the local chapter of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.

Once enrolled, children in five local Zip Codes from birth to their 5th birthday get high quality, age appropriate books mailed to them each and every month for FREE. All local preschoolers are eligible.

Think of the time they share exploring books with their parents and developing a love for reading and learning!

Dolly Parton’s national nonprofit does the heavy lifting. California taxpayers do their part by subsidizing half of the local costs. Julian donors — YOU — do the rest.

With a donation of just $65, *you* pay for the all books sent to a single child for the program’s length — a full five years. For $95, *you* pay for the gift of a month’s book shipment to all 88 Julian preschoolers currently enrolled!
