Urgent Poultry Project Alert
To everyone with chickens at the fair:

This afternoon we lost three birds to the extreme heat. We likely would have lost another if we had not intervened immediately by giving it a cool water bath to bring its core body temperature down.

We also had to cool several birds that were on one of the back tables where there was very little airflow. We shared this information with other clubs and advised them to do the same if they noticed birds showing signs of heat stress.

When we left, all of the birds were doing much better, but the next few days are going to be critical.

For Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, you will need to:

Give your birds cool water baths as neededโ€”possibly up to four times a day during the hottest part of the day.
Make sure they have plenty of fresh, cool water available at all times.
Check that your birds are getting adequate airflow. You should be able to see their feathers moving from the air coming across them. If they are not getting air movement, ask them to be relocate or add small fans to the cages if possible.

This is not optional. With the temperatures we are experiencing, these extra measures are necessary to keep your birds from suffering heat stress, which can quickly become fatal.

Please check your birds frequently throughout the day. A few minutes of attention can save their lives. Please pass this information on to other clubs if your seeing a heat stressed bird.

Club Alert to All Animal Project Leaders

The bedding has arrived and is now in the shed for you to pick up and use to bed down the animals in your project area.

The shed is open, so feel free to stop by at your convenience. If you come after dark, the light switch is located just inside to the right of the large door.

Bedding Available:
๐Ÿ– Swine โ€“ Your preferred bedding is set aside for you.
๐Ÿ„๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‡๐Ÿ” Dairy, Beef, Goats, Sheep, Rabbits, and Poultry โ€“ There are three stacks of white bales available for all of these departments to share.

Please remember that these three pallets of bedding need to last the entire fair week. Be responsible and only take what is needed, making every effort to stretch the supply.

By Friday, project leaders should have a good idea of how much bedding remains so you can collectively determine how to divide the remaining supply fairly among all the animal departments.

Thank you for helping us make our bedding supply last all week and for taking such great care of the animals. Club animal project youth appreciate everything you do!

The members of the Next Generation 4-H Club would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Glenn Burgy of Burgy Century Farms for his incredible generosity in paying for half the cost of the beautiful new club shirts that were presented to us as a surprise by the Green County Fall Nationals.

Your kindness and willingness to support our club mean more than words can express. It is truly heartwarming to know that individuals and organizations within our community recognize and appreciate the dedication, hard work, and countless hours our members invest in serving others.

Since our club was founded in 2013, community service has been one of the cornerstones of our mission. We strive to teach our youth that giving back, lending a helping hand, and making a positive difference in our community are values that will last a lifetime. Your generosity not only provided our members with wonderful shirts to wear with pride, but also reminded them that their efforts are noticed and valued.

Glenn, thank you for believing in our youth and for investing in the future of our community. We are equally grateful to the Green County Fall Nationals for this thoughtful surprise and for recognizing the work our club does throughout the year.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your support, your encouragement, and your belief in the Next Generation 4-H Club. Your generosity has made a lasting impression on our members, and we are honored to have friends like you standing beside us as we continue our mission of serving our community.

The Next Generation 4-H Club would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Green County Fall Nationals for the delicious treats and the wonderful club shirts they had made especially for our members.

During their presentation, they expressed how much they appreciate the hard work our club puts into cleaning the fairgrounds each year before their event. Their thoughtful gifts were their way of saying "thank you," and we are truly honored by their kindness and generosity.

Community service has always been an important part of our club, and our members take great pride in giving back. It means so much to be recognized for the time, effort, and dedication our youth and volunteers contribute each year. Knowing that our work makes a difference and is appreciated by others is incredibly rewarding.

On behalf of all of our members, volunteers, and families, thank you, Green County Fall Nationals, for your generosity, your encouragement, and for recognizing the value of community service. We look forward to continuing our partnership and helping make your event a success for many years to come.
