Charleston Area Therapeutic Riding, Inc. Charleston Area Therapeutic Riding welcomes families to be a part of the CATR Community!

Established in 1991, Charleston Area Therapeutic Riding is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing quality therapeutic horseback riding programs to individuals with a wide variety of disabilities in a safe and enjoyable environment. Therapeutic riding, also known as Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies, is the use of horses and equine-oriented activities to achieve a variety

of therapeutic goals. Both the American Physical and Occupational Therapy Associations recognize therapeutic riding as an approved therapeutic tool, offering clients a wide range of benefits including improved balance, mobility, muscle tone, coordination and posture, increased concentration and self-confidence, and enhanced independence.

Many think horseback riding is effortless, but it takes incredible strength and balance just to stay on. Holding the reins builds hand and body strength, enabling students to achieve milestones like swinging or riding a bike. Riding teaches valuable life skills far beyond the barn.

This year we are excited to host our third annual Pony Parade at our Pony Up Family Funfest! The Pony Parade will feature Horse Teams made up of a horse and their student partners and other fans! Each team member is raising funds to support CATR's special herd. The overall goal of $20,000 will provide ten months of care for four horses. The winning team will be announced after the parade!

CATR's amazing equine partners provide the connection between students, volunteers, and instructors, which is the core of all that we do. 🐴💙

Stuffed Avery, Instructors Elizabeth and Alexa had so much fun getting to know our new Public School Group friends at the classroom visit this morning for the upcoming fall session!

Classroom visits allow instructors, students and teachers to get to know each other and set expectations before their first day on the farm. We discussed safety, tried on some very fashionable helmets and spent time grooming stuffed Avery until he looked his very best.

We are all looking forward to reuniting at CATR in a just a few weeks! 🐴💙
