Ever wanted to try woodturning?

The Vermont Woodturners Guild has two beginner-friendly workshops coming up at the Russ Fellows Woodturning Center, and registration is now open!

• Women's Introduction to Woodturning with Janet Collins
• Introduction to Woodturning with Brad Vietje & Elsa Oppenheimer

Both workshops are designed for beginners, with plenty of hands-on time at the lathe. No prior experience is necessary.

These workshops are open to both Guild members and the public. If you're not currently a member, your non-member registration includes a Vermont Woodturners Guild membership through the end of 2027!

Space is limited, and we expect these workshops to fill quickly.

Register to join us on August 16 for a hands-on Spindle Turning Workshop with master woodturner and former Guild President Nick Rosato.

Unlike bowl turning, spindle turning works with the grain running lengthwise through the wood. Nick will cover work mounting, tool selection, and key techniques used to create everything from finials and tool handles to furniture parts and architectural turnings. Participants will have the opportunity to see these techniques up close and try them at the lathe.

The shop could use some TLC. Come to the Sawdust Session early and roll up your sleeves.

Got a tool that needs sharpening? Bring it along.

Meet up at the woodturning center to visit with other members, get questions answered, or make some sawdust. This month we'll be cleaning up some and sharpening tools. If you're curious how, bring a tool or two and we'll work through the process together.
