🎉We are excited to announce the nine VT Youth Poet Laureate finalists!🎉

Congratulations Marcus Burns (St. Johnsbury), Mariam Abena Diallo (Brattleboro), Will Helms (Hardwick), Mayla Landis-Marinello (Middlesex), Maelyn Slavik (Burlington), Ella Thomas (Calais), Evvi Tower-Pierce (East Burke), Isabella May (Brattleboro), and Lylah Zeitlin (Woodstock)!

The winner and 2 runners-up will be announced on Sat., April 25 during a live stream of the National Youth Poet Laureate Commencement, which will be held at the brand new Omaha Central Library in Nebraska. The live stream will begin at 8 p.m.

We are excited to announce that Katie Moritz is our new Managing Director!🎉

Katie has over a decade of experience in writing and communication. Prior to serving as the Communication Liaison at NVRH, she was editor of a weekly newspaper, manager of an assisted living facility, and educator for at-risk youth at a charter school in northern NH as well as for first-gen students at Dartmouth College. While pursuing a master’s degree in writing and literature at Dartmouth, she served as editor-in-chief of a graduate student journal now known as Clamantis: The MALS Journal A published poet and writer, her fiction work has been nominated for The Pushcart Prize. She is currently working on her first book of poetry.

“We are so excited to have Katie joining us,” Board Vice-President Barbara Murphy said. “We believe that Katie’s connections throughout Vermont’s rural Northeast Kingdom combined with her commitment to elevate diversity within the poetry community will take our organization to a new and exciting space.”

What a fun, inspiring day at the for the 2024 Youth Poetry Summit! Students from 6 high schools joined in workshops and a poetry slam. In this photo, Vermont’s reads her poem “Almond Eyes” to a crowd of about 70 students, teachers and staff.
