An orange tabby named Otter was born with a meningoencephalocele. Part of his brain was protruding through a hole in his skull.
Baby Kitten Rescue took him in and got him a custom 3D-printed helmet to protect the exposed area while he was still too small for surgery.
He wore the helmet every day. A tiny cat in a tiny helmet, walking around like it was perfectly normal.
At six months old, he was big enough for the procedure. Surgeons implanted a titanium mesh plate over the opening in his skull to permanently protect his brain.
The surgery worked. Otter recovered fully. No more helmet. No more exposed brain. Just a normal cat with a titanium plate in his head and no idea how many people were rooting for him.
He's since been adopted and is living a completely normal life ๐
