General information
From the beginning of time people have expressed themselves through some kind of art medium whether it was by creating a beat with two sticks, drawing hieroglyphics on cave walls, carving out elaborate totem poles, performing ceremonial dances around a fire or singing spirituals to pass the day away or relay a message. Art surpasses what the eye can see, what the ear can hear, or the sensations that are felt when something is touched. It transcends clearly and straight to the soul and ignites the truest expressions into an inferno of the human spirit. Not Just YETT is a multifaceted summer school program. It is made up of students from around the city's middle schools, high schools, local colleges, businesses, volunteers, and a dedicated staff of people who want to make Jackson the showpiece of Mississippi. We seek to expose young people of all backgrounds to different art forms in a way they may never have been (or never will be) exposed to and allow them to be creative and express themselves through various art outlets. The program is designed to cater to the whole person in a controlled and supervised environment with teams that include art educators, artists, subject area experts, and other individuals who are knowledgeable about the arts. Incorporating mentors, guest speakers, and counselors is also an integral part of our program. Mississippi has an outstanding and colorful history of accomplished artists. Through art programs like Not Just YETT, our state can be even more outstanding and even more colorful. By being a part of the Not Just YETT program, you will be included in that rich Mississippi heritage of artistic excellence.
