🏆 Award Spotlight!! Outstanding Historic Rehabilitation Project | Castle Properties & The Collective Co.

Through the leadership of Mark Castleberry, the former Korean Church building on South Lafayette Street in Starkville has provided a meaningful transformation for downtown. Originally built in 1929 as the Slaughter Chevrolet dealership, the building has served as a grocery store, Radio Shack, candle factory, and later the Korean Church beginning in 1992.

Mark Castleberry led a $1.4 million renovation using historic tax credits to preserve its character while preparing it for modern use. The project included both interior and exterior improvements, reopening tall ceilings and exposed beams to restore its original open design. Updates like a new roof, windows, refinished floors, and a refreshed façade—including a floral mural by Mississippi artist Deborah Mansfield—brought new life to the space.

Today, the building thrives with Castle Properties offices downstairs and The Collective Company’s home décor and design showroom upstairs, creating a vibrant mixed-use destination in the heart of Starkville.

Visit Cleveland MS promotes Cleveland and Bolivar County as a destination in the Mississippi Delta. The office connects visitors with the area’s rich music history, cultural attractions, dining, shopping, events, and outdoor experiences while supporting local tourism businesses and driving visitation to the region.

There’s so much positive progress happening in downtown Natchez!

The investment of ARPA funds helped spark new investments and inspire building owners to make impactful improvements throughout downtown.

These efforts are breathing new life into historic buildings, strengthening the downtown district,and paving the way for continued revitalization.

!! ARPA Spotlight !! 👏

The Downtown Hattiesburg Association successfully completed the implementation of the DHA Roadmap, establishing a clear strategic vision and framework for the continued revitalization and growth of Downtown Hattiesburg.

As part of this effort, DHA launched a new website and refreshed its branding to better reflect its role as a designated Main Street organization and Downtown Hattiesburg as a vibrant destination in the Gulf South.

The updated branding and digital presence have strengthened DHA’s ability to promote downtown businesses, events, projects, and opportunities.

DHA also purchased outdoor seating and furnishings that can be utilized throughout Downtown for special events, activations, and future parklet installations. These resources have enhanced the public realm and provided greater flexibility to create welcoming, pedestrian-friendly spaces that encourage
people to gather, dine, shop, and spend more time Downtown.

Together, these completed projects have strengthened DHA’s organizational capacity, improved Downtown’s identity and visibility, and provided new tools to support continued economic and community development.

With the second round of funding, DHA added an outdoor green space at the new Visit Hattiesburg Welcome Center. This new project will create a new outdoor space at the entrance to downtown.

🏆 Award Spotlight!! Outstanding Project Promotion | Tunica Main Street Custom Mah Jong Set

To promote its inaugural Mah Jong Tournament fundraiser, Tunica Main Street developed a custom, place-based promotional piece: the “Delta Sunset” Mah Jong set. Designed in-house, the set—including mat, tiles, racks, and tablecloth—cost just a little over $100 to produce.

Inspired by Tunica’s recognizable “Welcome to Tunica” mural and the region’s signature sunsets, the mat features soft, colorful hues alongside cotton bolls and magnolias, representing local agriculture and Mississippi heritage. This transformed a traditional game accessory into a branded storytelling tool rooted in community identity.

The set served as the centerpiece of the event and was featured in signage and on-site displays, creating excitement and a sense of exclusivity. Promoted as a one-of-a-kind item, it was raffled using both in-person sales and a QR code for mobile purchasing. The raffle sales from the set brought in over $1,000 for Tunica Main Street at this exciting new fundraising event.
