We haven’t done a raffle in quite a while and now is the perfect time to do one again!

The “miscellaneous” expenses are killing us — the random foster dog medical issue (we seem to have a lot of those lately), the rechecks, the temp boarding for an out of town foster, the supplies, the boring overhead stuff (e.g. software, postal, office supplies, etc), so on and so forth.

This is on top of all the big or regular expenses— e.g. spay/neuters, vaccines, prevention, surgeries (another this week), heartworm treatment, etc.

Misc expenses don’t often make it to socials for fundraising because well, they’re usually smaller and random. When you have a plethora of constant smaller expenses though — they add up to a large chunk.

Please help us cover some of these expenses by grabbing raffle tickets!🐾

Community Pet Food Pantries: August Recap🐾

Since we aren’t posting every time pantries are restocked anymore, I figured we would do monthly recaps.

This last month, our free community pet food pantries (both in Griffin) collectively provided around 2,500 pounds of pet food to families in need❤️

A lot of the food this month was made possible thanks to our friends at Second Life Atlanta. We applied for and received a grant a while back for community outreach. With those funds, we have primarily purchased food pallets for the pantries. Their kindness and generosity has help keep community pet bellies full and families together.

🎊💖IVY WAS PROMISED FOREVER💖🎊

Ivy, now Clementine, is over the moon to share that she has found her forever family!

(Uber later on posting, oopsies🙈)

Ivy is one of mama Cali’s puppies. Mama Cali grew up in a feral to semi-feral pack, technically owned, but living outside 24/7, extremely minimal interaction, really just thrown food. The pack bred and spread like wildfire — resulting in a total of 15 dogs pulled off the property over the course of a few months. Though those 15 made it out, many didn’t… evident in e.g. one puppy being dead on the porch one day, another carcass found in a shed, so on and so forth.

We ended up with 2 of Cali’s past litter first (Jep and W***y). They were being attacked by pack members and the only 2 surviving left come December. Thanks to a foster stepping up, we were able to get them out, but sadly had to nowhere for Cali to go then with no foster offers for her at the time. All we could do was keep working on trying to find one and try to keep an eye on her in the meantime.

Thankfully, a foster did step up for Cali some months later and we were finally able to go back for her. (And actually the same foster for her other babies. Jep/W***y had been adopted in addition to that Foster’s other mama who became Jep/W***y’s honorary mama — making room for them to take Cali. It was a whole full circle family affair)

Unfortunately, in the time to have passed, Cali had since gotten pregnant again and was late term. Between her medical and behavioral status, we couldn’t safely pull off a spay/abort in the very short time before birth. She was essentially a feral dog when we got her adding a mound of complications on top of the medical issues. It just couldn’t safely be done in the time we had, so Cali faced mama hood one final time.

When the time came for her babies to depart the nest, a former adoptive family of ours reached out. They were wanting to expanding their family and add a little girl to their pack, and Ivy was tugging on them.

Ivy joined her family for foster-to-adopt and fit in seamlessly. There was no question of her staying once her vetting was done — Ivy had found her pack and family, the perfect addition they were looking for❤️

Thank you to Ivy now Clementine’s pawrents for saving a life and choosing adoption. Congratulations Ivy and family!🎊

Reminder: though Simon appears to see fine currently, there is a chance genetically that he could go blind one day. His mama has Progressive Retinal Atrophy, a hereditary eye condition causing blindness at a young age. It’s absolutely not a guarantee that it was passed onto him - but a chance we do want to share with prospective adopters. SHOULD he have it, if anything like his mama, it won’t put the slightest damper on his zest for life or love for people🥰

Where are Brownie’s forever people? The most perfect girl has been searching for 5 months and still hasn’t found her peeps!

Her foster mama literally said the only “down side” per se she can think of with Brownie is that she snores. I mean come on now!!! What a fabulous singular “down side”😂. This girl is the best little princess and deserves her own forever family.

Spalding Send A Pail: THANK YOU!!!!!!!❤️🐾🐶

Thanks to an incredible community, 101 pails were purchased for SCACC to replace the chewed on plastic buckets in the dog kennels.

If that wasn’t fantastic in itself, you guys also did it in one singular day. ONE!

The power of community is something fierce. We are incredibly grateful and appreciative for ours.

SEND A PAIL: Please help us replace all the plastic water buckets at the Spalding shelter with stainless steel pails!🐾

SCACC is going through changes following the departure of the previous director this week. We do not know who or when a new one will be appointed.

If you follow us, you know the vast majority of our dogs come from Spalding. If you live in Spalding or follow anything Spalding related, you probably also know the challenges faced in Spalding under the previous management.

I went down to the shelter yesterday to ask how we can help in light of the changes.

One very feasible thing identified to get started is replacing all the plastic water buckets with stainless steel pails.

Plastic buckets are a safety and health risk to bored dogs in kennels. While some leave them alone, many chew and shred them.

Can you help us kickstart this new chapter for Spalding animals and reach our goal of 100 pails?

We will take the pails to the shelter once we meet our goal (and take pics of course!)
