10/17 ETERNAL LIFE

Mark 10:17 “Now as He was going out on the road, one came running, knelt before Him, and asked Him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?”

THOUGHT:
There's a saying; "Everybody wants to go to Heaven, but nobody want to die." which covers a lot more than to die physically, but also to die to the desires of our flesh. Sometimes our stuff gets in the way of our serving God, even a blessing from God can become a bad thing if it, or they, get in the way of serving Him. He said in Exodus 20:3 as He gave us the ten commandments, “You shall have no other gods before me.”
In our scripture today, the young man who approached Jesus was in this place. He wasn't willing to give up something that is was temporary, something uncertain, to gain something that is secure, something eternal. When Jesus told him to go sell what he had, give to the poor, take up his cross daily and follow him, the Bible says he went away sad because he had great wealth.
You don't have to have great wealth to be in this position, if you have anything that stands between you and serving God, it is an idol, a god, and must go, my advice is to remove it from it place in your home or life, put God first, then ask Him what stuff you can have.
I don’t want anything, a habit, or stuff to keep me from my eternal home in Heaven. No, you can’t do it by yourself, but help is available through the power of The Holy Spirit, when you are born again.
Remember, everyone will live forever somewhere; by your life on earth, you decide if it will be Heaven or Hell.

PRAYER:
Search my heart oh God, make it ever true. I surrender all to you, whatever is in my life that isn't pleasing to you, with your help, I will walk away from it, or get rid of it. I want you to be not only my Savior, but be my Lord as well, directing my life according to your will, in Jesus name, AMEN 🙏

10/16 ACCEPTABLE

Almost everyone wants to be accepted by friends and family. Sometimes even get into bad habits and lifestyles, just to fit in, and then some of those become problems later on and are hard to break. The Psalmist wrote, in Psalms 19:14: “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.” That’s the acceptance and the approval we should be seeking, which is Gods.
I took a job driving for a major company in the late ‘60’s and because I wanted to be accepted by the other drivers, wanted to be a part of the group, I got into some things that I wish I had never. (Thank God they were in the list Jesus forgave me of in ’71.) As born again Christians, we must learn to walk as Jesus leads, not as someone or some group decides what is best.
Micah 6:8; “He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God? “ Also read 1 Thessalonians chapter four for some great instructions from the Apostle Paul on how to walk. But first you must decide do you want to please man or God, your choice. I pray that you do as Joshua said in Joshua 24:15: “And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

10/16 A Promise

Be Strong and Take Heart

10/15 He is the good Shepherd

John 10:15
As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep.

THOUGHT:
Jesus validates His relationship with the Father, and spells out His love for all us. He is the Good Shepherd, and all born again Christians are His sheep. Sheep follow their shepherd without question, in fact, I was told in Israel, that if there are more than one herd in a large pen together, one shepherd calls out and only his come out because they know his voice.
Do we listen to the voice of The Lord enough to recognize it above all the other things going on around us? Jesus said, I know the Father and the Father knows me. Do you know Jesus, or just know about Him? It’s going to take a personal relationship to get us into Heaven.
Lots of people know Jan, my wife, but I really know her from being married to her for over 46 years. I have been serving God for over 42 years and I’m learning more about Him everyday. But I can say, I know Him, and He knows me, and He promised in John 14:2-3 that He has a place being built just for me in Heaven: “In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”
He wants you to come there too someday and He is waiting for you to call out to Him in repentance so He can get your place built.
Do you Know Him today?

PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, I want to know you more, so I ask in the name of Jesus that you forgive my sins, come into my life and direct it according to your will. I will study your Word, the Bible, and live according to its directions as best I can.
AMEN.

10/14 The Humbleness of a child!

Mark 10:14
But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. 15 Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.”

THOUGHT:
One can only imagine the crowds that showed up when Jesus came around, so the Disciples thought they were helping Jesus by trying to keep the children back away from Him. However, He didn't want anyone of any age to miss out on the ministry they needed. He even used a child to emphasize the attitude we all should have when coming to God with our needs and requests.
In Matthew 18:2-4 “Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, 3 and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
4 Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”
When we come to God with our prayer requests we should have the humbleness of a child that knows he or she is totally dependent on the person they’re making the request to. There is no other way to get to Heaven except through Jesus Christ, so we are totally dependent on His shed blood that paved the way. As we mentioned in an earlier devotion, pride can be a bad thing, especially when it keeps a person from asking Jesus to forgive their sins and provide their needs.

PRAYER:
Heavenly Father help me to become humble as a little child, and to know that I am totally dependent on you for everything I need, most of all, salvation, in Jesus name, Amen!
