The City of Itasca Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1896 and is comprised of all Volunteers proudly serving the citizens of Itasca and the north east corner of Hill County, Texas.

Update on these road closures in Blum:

New date will be this Friday November 6th from 5am to 5pm

PUBLIC NOTICE - Attention Blum: BNSF planned roadway closure; date changed:

BNSF Railroad plans to close the FM 933 railroad crossing, just North of Blum, on November 6th from 5 A.M. to 5 P.M. for maintenance. As a result of this closure, out of an abundance of caution, the Precinct 1 Commissioner will also be closing the Iron Bridge on HCR 1127. The Iron Bridge is not ideal for a large influx of traffic or semi-truck traffic, so there are concerns for public safety. Please follow detour signs on November 5th and do not cross cones or barricades.

Please note, this is a NEW date for the closure, not an additional date.

11/2 9:45 AM - Severe Weather possible this evening:

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth is forecasting the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms across Hill County late tonight into early Tuesday morning.

TIMING FOR HILL COUNTY:

* Earliest Arrival: Around 10 PM tonight
* Most Likely: Midnight – 4 AM Tuesday
* Storms Ending: Around 6 AM Tuesday

PRIMARY THREATS:

* Damaging Winds: Main concern with the approaching line of storms.
* Tornadoes: A brief, isolated tornado cannot be ruled out but tornado threat is low.
* Hail: Isolated hail is possible.
* Heavy Rainfall: Brief heavy rain may cause localized flooding, but the overall flooding threat is low.

Not everyone will experience severe weather, but storms could arrive while most people are sleeping. Make sure you have a reliable way to receive weather warnings overnight and keep your phone’s emergency alerts enabled. Also make sure your signed up for the County Emergency Notification system: share.hilloemtx.gov/ens

Cooler, drier, and breezy conditions are expected Tuesday following the storms.

Hill County Emergency Management will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as necessary.

If you’re traveling through the city of Blum on Thursday 11/05/2026 during the day keep this in mind!

Left lane is reopened at MM 10 and cleanup is underway. Please be cautious while traveling through this area.

Traffic Alert (Hill County) Northbound I35W has been closed in the Itasca area due to a major accident involving an overturned semi truck. No major injuries have been reported at this time. Extensive clean up will be required. Expect an extended closure. Take another route if you can.

10/2/2026 - After receiving an appreciable amount of rain, Judge Shane Brassell has rescinded the Burn Ban.

Currently, our KBDI is 499, we still have another day of rain chances, and next week is forecasted to be much cooler.

IF you plan on doing a controlled burn, please notify the Sheriff's Office by calling 254-582-5313. Please burn responsibly.

9/29 10:35 AM - Flooding and Severe Weather possible this week and into the weekend

Hill County is expected to see multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms beginning Wednesday, with the greatest concern for heavy rainfall and flash flooding Wednesday night through Thursday. Widespread rainfall totals of 2–5 inches are expected, with isolated totals up to 8 inches possible where storms repeatedly track over the same areas. Rain chances continue Friday and into Saturday.

With this storm, you may see out of area Emergency Responders in the greater Hillsboro area as they come here to be prepositioned in preparation to be able to quickly respond anywhere in the State or our area.

Residents are encouraged to develop a plan on how they would respond to an emergency where they work or reside. If you need tips on how to plan and what to have, please visit www.ready.gov
