✨ Meet the Welcome Weekend Vendors! ✨

We’re excited to introduce you to the wonderful local vendors who will be joining us for Welcome Weekend and sharing their food, talents, and stories with our community.

Meet Hagir Guta, a Sudanese baker, chef, and entrepreneur with a passion for bringing people together through food. Hagir spent most of her life in Saudi Arabia, an experience that deeply influenced her cooking and helped her develop an appreciation for both Sudanese and Mediterranean cuisine.

Today, she brings those flavors, traditions, and hospitality to Iowa City through Guta Catering. Her food reflects both her Sudanese roots and the culture she grew up around in Saudi Arabia, with a goal of sharing authentic, comforting flavors while introducing more people to the beauty of Sudanese and Mediterranean cuisine.

Hagir is best known for her signature Sudanese cookies and kaak, and we can’t wait for you to try them! Come meet Hagir and sample her signature cookies at Welcome Weekend!

Join us at the Johnson County Historic Poor Farm for our weekly Saturday farmers market! We are excited to host everyone again after a successful Open House event last Saturday: thank you to everyone in attendance!
Come and take advantage of your SNAP and Double Up Food Bucks with us! We are able to match your SNAP dollars up to $125, and remember, that those Double Up bucks can only be used on fresh produce!
We accept cash, check, credit/debit card, SNAP/EBT, and some vendors accept WIC vouchers and Senior vouchers.

Shaina Aber, the executive director for Acacia Center for Justice, said the [legal] funds were withheld because attorneys refused to hand over to the administration sensitive case data from the unaccompanied children, such as medical records and the types of legal relief the minors are seeking.

“These children should not, and should never be, leveraged in a political game,” she said.

As many as 20,000 unaccompanied immigrant children are at risk of losing their federally funded legal representation.

The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has reversed a July 2 panel decision requiring bond hearings for immigrants.
