Little Dresses for Africa-Citrus County, FL. We do what we do because no child should go without. Would you like to do it to? There is always room for one more sewing machine around the table.

I want to make you aware of a wonderful opportunity to serve others. “Little Dresses for Africa. The primary idea behind this ministry is to make simple clothing and send it to those most in need. Little Dresses for Africa is a non profit Christian organization based in Michigan www.littledressesforafrica.org., which provides relief to the children of Africa. Simple dresses are made out of pillow

cases, and distributed through the orphanages, churches and schools in Africa to plant in the hearts of little girls that they are worthy! Founder, Rachel O'Neil began making simple dresses from pillowcases and sending them to missions in Africa. A pattern for a little girl’s sundress is provided on the above website or you may use your own pattern. These dresses can be made from pillowcases or a yard of durable fabric. Britches for Boys began with a simple question “What about the boys?” and a pattern to utilize T-shirts to make shorts for boys has been made. All sizes are welcomed. How can you participate? If you are a person who sews: You can use the patterns on the above website (or your own) and make as many dresses as wish. Remember that these dresses and any embellishments you might choose to add to them need to be durable and stand up to use. Please no buttons or zippers, as they have no way to repair them. If you want to learn to do some simple sewing: This is a great place to start. Help is available to lead you through the process. If you don’t have the time/desire to make a dress but you have fabric or pillowcases: You can donate new or lightly used pillowcases or fabric (requires about one yard per dress). Someone will turn your donation into dresses for needy little girls. If you don’t have pillowcases or fabric, but would like to help: You may purchase fabric or notions to be used for this project. Thread, ¼ inch elastic, double wide, binding tape and fabric (one yard) are all that are required to make a basic dress using one of the patterns provided. To help with the cost of shipping, I have made Holiday dresses including Christmas, Fall, Halloween, Easter, etc.. Theses $12 or 2 for $20 dresses are for sale to help offset the cost of shipping. ALL proceeds go to LDFA, there is no overhead. From time to time I will be posting pictures of the journey we take here in Citrus County, Fl and pictures from our friends around the world and from pictures of dresses to those of us involved to local fairs and road trips, it is my hope that you will become inspired

A dream is realized. Ever since i became involved with LDFA, the blessings that have followed me in my journey have been more than I could ever have dreamed of.
12 years ago I started sewing in the basement of my church in Gloucester,Ma. with like like minded volunteers , sewing dresses for girls across the sea and here at home.
How do I take this to the next level, sharing the amazing work that the ladies put in with others, standing under a tent, showing off the dresses, handing out brochures never thinking that people would buy them.
Taking it to the next level , making a version of the dress using donated materials that would not stand the rigors of an african life; tule, brocade , antique lace, bling, white pillowcases , gauzy curtains. Then selling these dresses to help fund the containers that pushed the goods over to Africa, starting with one 10x10 tent, and 2 clothing racks, then moving into 2 tents and 4 racks with 12 containers of dresses, I loved it. They were long days but so satisfying.
Then taking this to a place I never imagined which was Florida. Dividing my time between 2 states dividing the dresses into 2 states. How can I combine it into one?
A moving dress mobile, the 18ft Van, outfitted by my husband: perfect. The dresses stay in the van, coming on this journey with us.
Ever my mind, how do I get more people to notice?
Meeting the wonderful people at Ultragraphics in Homosassa, Fl., working with Tim and Giovannia with my vision. A dream come true.
From Massachusetts to Michigan , to Florida and back to Massachusetts, they ever expanding knowledge of Little Dresses for Africa will be shared one highway at a time. So if you see the van, beep and wave!

From Little Dresses For Africa- Main Headquarters
10,500 dresses are going out to operation Christmas child with Samaritan’s purse in the morning. That’s 105 boxes, perfectly sewn, sized and packed and headed out to bless little girls all over the world. That’s because some sewed. Some measured. Some rolled. Some taped. Some weighed. Some hauled them and stacked them on 3 pallets and wrapped them in plastic. It takes a village. We are so grateful. Way to go, everyone and thank you
