Our meetings continue to be the threads that hold us together as a Rotary club family. We were honored recently to hear presentations from the new principal at Citrus High, Mike Einspahr, and to hear his vision and goals to continue the successes at CHS. In addition, Josh Wooten, President and CEO of the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce, visited us and shared the recent initiatives that are occurring to help our county prosper and succeed among the many challenges of rapid growth and economic issues. In addition to terrific presenters, our happy and sad dollar segments raised money for our treasury, and the elusive JOKER continued to hide in the few cards remaining in the 50/50.

It is with tremendous sadness that we share the passing of our dear friend and longtime Rotary Club of Inverness member, Alva “Sonny” Hunt.

Although Sonny moved away from our community a few years ago, he was, and will always be, an important part of the Rotary family. For 42 years, Sonny was deeply involved in the Inverness community. He served as President of the Rotary Club of Inverness and was honored as a multiple Paul Harris Fellow for his dedication to Rotary and service to others.

But beyond the titles and honors, Sonny was simply a wonderful person to have around. He had a great sense of humor, a generous spirit and a remarkable ability to bring laughter and happiness wherever he went. His friendship, leadership and commitment to serving others touched countless lives in our community.

The Rotary Club of Inverness extends our deepest condolences to Sonny’s family and friends. We are grateful for the many years we had the privilege of calling Sonny our friend and fellow Rotarian. His memory and legacy of service will remain a part of our Rotary family.

Rest in peace, Sonny. You will be deeply missed.

When most of Citrus County was still snoring, the Rotary Club of Inverness along with Downtown Inverness Rotary Club joined nineteen other organizations to "Save Our Waters" and "Keep Citrus County Beautiful." How did we do that? With grabbers and trash bags our two Rotary Clubs cleared out the garbage and debris along our county's waterways. Our area was near Cooter Pond and the Withlacoochee State Trail. Once again, the Dandurand Family earned the title of THE CUTEST OF TRASH FINDERS while Tom C. stole the MOST INERESTING crown off the head of Mark Y. with a large slice of construction debris. However, Mark and Eloy dragging a discarded toilet out of Cooter Pond a few years ago remains a highlight of our trash detail. It's a dirty job, but someone's got to do it and we did!
