What does it feel like to be a child watching from the sidelines while others run, climb, and play?

No child should be left out.

The Rotary Club of Inverness is working to help build the first public inclusive playground in Citrus County, creating a place where children of all abilities can play, laugh, and make memories together. Watch this video to see the vision and why this project means so much.

Because every child deserves a place to play.

Thank you to supporters like: Brannen Bank, Colonial Jewelry & Pawn, Lora L. Wilson, PL, Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory, Bluewater Drafting, Citrus Title Company, LLC., and so many more

Last Tuesday's meeting was that time again----we honored four outstanding young people as our Students of the Month (SOM). Hearing about their accomplishments, their goals and dreams gave us all a sense of gratitude in knowing that our future is in good hands with these kids coming to the helm. Our 50-50 drawing was again an exciting time, but alas, the Joker remains unchosen and the jackpot rises to over $1,000.

Our club has very strong feelings towards helping our local youth. Whether it's recognizing the Students of the Month, cheering those achievers at Upward Bound, filling bags of food for Blessings, or granting scholarship money to local high seniors, giving our local youth a little help seems to be one of our main objectives. These last few weeks saw the realization of these efforts, cementing our desire to continue to raise funds for scholarships and to provide the "boots on the ground" when needed for our youth. And hopefully, in the near future, to build the all-accessible playground at Bryant Park!

The last few weeks were busy with socials and other commitments, but our meetings still remain the glue that keeps us together. Last week the planned presentation had to be cancelled, so we instead enjoyed a round-table discussion of our Founders' Day celebration and shared what we enjoyed about it and what we might add to it in the future. We don't often get time to just sit and chat and we were grateful that President Michael gave us this opportunity.

Then at this week's meeting, we were visited by YMCA Director of Aquatics, Jordan Gangi. Jordan emphasized the need for water safety and swim lessons in our county with its abundance of rivers, lakes, ponds, pools, and beaches. Two innovative programs that are very popular at the Y are the FLOAT program that teaches babies and toddlers how to roll on their backs and get to a pool wall. Jordan also highlighted the newest program, geared towards teaching children with special needs, concentrating on autistic children, how to swim. Jordan also emphasized that the Y will not turn anyone away from their programs that do involve fees, as the Y will work with families to make the fees do-able. Once again, we learned about ourselves and about some of the great work of another non-profit in our county.

Interested in coming to a meeting? Join us on the first 4 Tuesdays of any month at 12 noon in the E-School wing of WTC!

Polio is almost eradicated in the world because Rotary cared and brought some big donors (Bill Gates for one!) into this effort. This is another reason that we should be very proud to be Rotarians.

Congratulations to our own Jen Duca and her team at Citrus Title Company, LLC.. for garnering top Florida Agent for First American Title Insurance Company. In addition, this is the 5th year in a row that Jen and her team have received this honor, a feat unreached by any other title company. Way to go, Rotarian Jen! You make us all proud.

We have been a club for 55 years and on Saturday we celebrated that milestone with our FOUNDERS' DAY PICNIC at Whispering Pines Park. Of course, besides a great slide show (thanks, Eloy!) that highlighted our activities, there was way too much good food (covered dish by members and burgers and dogs cooked by the scouts of Troop 457), and a fun activity putting us through the paces of the ONE BAG environmental program that we present to our area's 3rd graders every year. We were smarter than a third- grader? That remains to be seen, but between the screeches in stacking the cans, the giggles in aiming golf balls into cans, and the breath-holding when carrying that giant inflatable globe, we had fun. Team YELLOW took top honors, and we vowed to make our Founders' Day an annual event!

A HUGE THANKS to Connors Gifts and to all who came and helped and shopped 'til they dropped on Thursday. Because of all of you, we raised $1,200 for our Rotary Club Foundation. The Foundation serves our community and is able to distribute $11,500 in student scholarships every year ($9,500 Citrus High and $2,000 Withlacoochee Technical College). Our club continues to not only say, but live "SERVICE ABOVE SELF."
