435 pounds of trash removed from Babcock Street! 🎉🌊

Last week, our Babcock cleanup crew got to work and made a BIG impact on our community.

Together, our volunteers removed 435 pounds of trash from along the roadway. And while this cleanup may have happened on land, its impact goes much further.

Roadway litter doesn’t always stay on the roadway. When Florida’s heavy rains arrive, trash can be carried into storm drains, canals, and eventually our waterways. By removing it before that happens, our volunteers are helping protect the places—and wildlife—we all love.

We are incredibly grateful for every volunteer who came out, rolled up their sleeves, and took ownership of a piece of their community. This is exactly what being a Waterway Warrior is all about:

Fall cleanup season is almost here, and WE NEED BAGS... LOTS OF BAGS!

Well… that summer hiatus didn’t last long. 😂💙🌊

Apparently, some of our Waterway Warriors just can’t stay away from picking up trash and we LOVE it!

While our regular cleanup schedule is taking a break from the Florida heat, we’ve heard from Warriors who are ready to get back out there. So, if you don’t want to wait until the International Coastal Cleanup on September 19th, we’ve got a bonus WEEKDAY cleanup for you!

Our mission for the morning is simple: **stop roadside trash before it has the chance to make its way into our river and waterways.** 💪🌊

WHAT TO BRING:

💧YOUR OWN HYDRATION! it’s Florida in August, so come prepared!

🧤 Gloves
🤏 Trash pickers

IMPORTANT:
👟 Closed-toed shoes are mandatory for all participants.
📝 Minors under 17 must have a signed Minor Permission Form to participate. You can download the form from our website or ask for one when you arrive.

⏰ WE START ON TIME...DON’T BE LATE!

Every bag of roadside trash we remove is one less bag of debris that can end up in our waterways and threaten the wildlife that calls them home.

🦦💛 SPONSOR SHOUTOUT: Right On Junk Removal And Hauling ! 💛🦦

Have you ever spotted one of our white Waterway Warriors trash barrels along Pineda Causeway or Eau Gallie Causeway? Those barrels give our community a place to stop trash before it reaches our waterways, but there’s another important piece to keeping this program going:

Jozies and the Right On Junk Removal team have been dedicated supporters of the Waterway Warriors mission, regularly heading out to Pineda and West Eau Gallie to empty our barrels and haul away the trash collected inside.

What a great community we have!!

Keefer’s Junk Removal and some of our dedicated Waterway Warriors volunteers came together for the Crab Trap Rodeo event. At this event, the Keefer + Waterway Warriors crew pulled out over 500 pounds of crab traps.

🌞 We're taking a little summer pause... but our mission never takes a break! 🦦💛

Every year, as the Florida heat reaches its peak, Waterway Warriors takes a planned break from our monthly cleanups during August and September. The safety of our volunteers always comes first, and we'll be back in October ready to hit the ground running for another amazing cleanup season!

But don't worry! You'll still see us out in the community!

🤝 On September 19, we'll be partnering with Keep Brevard Beautiful, Inc., GreenSpace Water Alliance, and other incredible local organizations for the annual International Coastal Cleanup, one of the largest volunteer efforts to protect our coastlines and waterways.

🥞 Then on September 26, we'll celebrate the people who make our mission possible at our Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast before we officially kick off our fall cleanup season.

Until then, we have a challenge for our Waterway Warriors family:

💛 Pick up litter during your daily walk.
♻️ Choose reusable bottles, bags, and containers whenever you can.
🚯 Reduce single-use plastics.
🌎 Leave every place you visit a little cleaner than you found it.

Protecting our waterways isn't something that only happens on cleanup days—it's something we can all do every single day through small actions that add up to a huge impact.

Thank you for another incredible season of making a difference. We can't wait to see everyone again in October for more cleanups, more smiles, and more pounds of trash removed from our waterways!

1,700+ pounds of trash. Over 30 volunteers. One incredible morning of protecting our waterways 💙🌎

What an incredible way to wrap up our cleanup season before our annual summer hiatus!

This past Saturday, Waterway Warriors teamed up with our friends at Coast Water Sweep for a land and water cleanup along the SR 528 corridor—one of the most important areas we work to protect. Together, more than 30 dedicated volunteers removed over 1,700 pounds of trash before it had the chance to further impact the Banana River, the Indian River Lagoon, and the wildlife that call these waters home.

From the shoreline to the water itself, every volunteer played a role in creating a cleaner, healthier habitat for dolphins, manatees, birds, fish, and countless other species. This is what happens when a community comes together with one shared mission.

As many of you know, we pause our cleanup events each summer because of the extreme Florida heat. It's a tradition we've followed for years to help keep our volunteers safe while temperatures are at their highest.

But don't worry—we're not disappearing!

Throughout August and September, we'll continue sharing environmental education, Waterway Warriors updates, conservation tips, volunteer stories, sponsor spotlights, and ways you can continue making a difference from home.

We'll also be hosting our Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast in September, giving our amazing volunteers a chance to reconnect before we officially kick off cleanup season again.

And then... we'll be back in October, boots on the ground, ready to remove thousands more pounds of trash from our waterways.

To every volunteer, partner, sponsor, and supporter who made this cleanup—and our entire season—a success: THANK YOU! You are the reason our waterways are cleaner and our wildlife is safer!

🚨 TWO TEAMS. ONE MISSION. ONE HUGE IMPACT. 🚨

This Saturday, Waterway Warriors and Space Coast Water Sweep are teaming up to tackle one of Brevard County's most important cleanup areas and we need YOU on our team!

💙💛 Together we'll be removing trash from both the shoreline and the water along the SR 528 corridor before it reaches the Banana River and Indian River Lagoon.

The reality is that much of the debris here sits in knee-deep water, where it threatens dolphins, manatees, fish, birds, and other wildlife. That's why we're attacking this cleanup from every angle.

Whether you:
🛶 Paddle a kayak
🚤 Bring your shallow-draft boat
🌊 Wade into the water
🦺 Prefer shoreline cleanup
..there's a place for you!

Yesterday was proof that when a community comes together, incredible things happen 💛🌎

Our volunteers spread out across two cleanup sites (Babcock Street in Palm Bay and SR 528 in Cape Canaveral) and made an immediate impact on our waterways before more debris could make its way into the Indian River Lagoon.

From discarded tires and a trampoline tarp to rubber mallets, construction debris, bottles, cans, plastic, and the everyday roadside litter that too often ends up in our rivers, our team tackled it all. Every piece removed is one less hazard for dolphins, manatees, turtles, birds, and the countless other species that call these waters home.

The truth is, most people never see the trash hidden just beyond the roadside, but our volunteers do. And because they showed up yesterday, our community is cleaner, safer, and healthier!

💛 To every volunteer who gave up part of their Saturday morning, thank you!!! You are the reason this mission continues to grow.
