This picture was taken hours before our daughter’s heart stopped during what was supposed to be a routine MRI.

February 9, 2023. It's a date our family will never forget.

Just 10 days after our daughter, Jovie, was diagnosed with both dilated and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, her doctors recommended an MRI to get a clearer picture of her heart. Because she was only 4 months old, she would need to be sedated.

We were terrified, but we trusted the medical team. If this procedure could help save our daughter's life, of course we said yes.

What happened next still takes our breath away.

While preparing to sedate Jovie, her heart stopped.

She flatlined.

Doctors administered epinephrine and were preparing to begin chest compressions when her heart rhythm returned. The MRI was immediately canceled.

That day changed our family forever.

As parents, we were left asking ourselves impossible questions. Did we make the right decision? Could this have been prevented?

There are safer options.

One of those options is Ventripoint technology—a non-invasive imaging system that can provide critical information about a child's heart without the risks of sedation. Had this technology been available at Cardinal Glennon when Jovie was hospitalized, she never would have needed to undergo that MRI.

That's why we're fighting.

That's why we're hosting the 4th Annual Jovie's Joy Trivia Night on August 29.

Jovie’s Joy would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year.

When we first started Jovie’s Joy, we had no idea it would become what it is today. What began as a way to give back to the Ollie Hinkle Heart Foundation—who provided our family with support and resources when Jovie was first diagnosed—has grown beyond anything we imagined.

To date, we have raised $60,000 for the Ollie Hinkle Heart Foundation, and they have generously matched $24,100 of that—bringing the total to $84,100 raised. These funds support Ollie Hinkle and, more recently, our focused mission on VentriPoint: a non-invasive alternative to MRI so no child has to face unnecessary risk to get answers about their heart condition.

This is all because of YOU.

Trivia nights, silent auction donations, Super Bowl squares, Jovie’s Joy merchandise, meals at the Ronald McDonald House, Wine & Whiskey Night, Christmas gifts for Brinley—every bit of this has been made possible by our incredible support system. We truly cannot thank you enough.

The annual heart mom ornament exchange hosted by Ollie Hinkle Heart Foundation is an incredibly inspiring event. It’s one of my favorite OHHF events as it provides me with the opportunity to bond and share with fellow heart moms who truly get it. Last night’s gathering was filled with remarkable women and unwavering resilience. Countless meaningful friendships have been made through this event.
