🔥 HIGH FIRE DANGER — PLEASE BE FIRE AWARE! 🔥

Missouri is extremely dry, and fire danger is very high. A small spark can turn into a large, out-of-control fire in minutes.

🚫 Please avoid burning until we get some much-needed rain. The safest fire is the one that never gets started.

If you do burn:
💧 Keep water nearby
👀 Never leave it unattended
🔥 Keep it small and away from anything that can burn
🧯 Make sure it’s completely out before leaving

Another Busy Weekend at Hurley Fire Protection District 🚒

The Hurley Fire Protection District would like to give a big shout-out to all of our personnel for another busy weekend!

We had members of the Fire Department and Auxiliary helping out at the Crane Broiler Fest for our annual raffle. We also had members at the Spring Creek Saddle Club for their annual Junior Bull Rides event. While our members were out supporting these community events, other members remained available in the district responding to calls and serving our community.

We also experienced a minor truck breakdown over the weekend. Thankfully, the truck has been repaired and is back in service. We would like to send a special THANK YOU to Hillbilly Towing for their assistance in getting the truck back in service. We truly appreciate your support!

As school starts back up, our firefighters and Auxiliary members want to remind everyone to please be extremely cautious on the roadways. We have school bus stops throughout our district, as well as children walking to and from school.

🚌 Slow down. Stay alert. Watch for buses, children, and pedestrians.

Let’s all do our part to make sure everyone has a safe and successful school year!

As we celebrate 250 years of American independence, we extend our deepest gratitude to all veterans, active-duty service members, first responders, and the brave men and women who have defended our nation's freedom.

Because of your courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment, we are able to celebrate this historic milestone together.

Today, enjoy time with family and friends, celebrate safely, and take a moment to remember the heroes who gave everything so that future generations could live free.

Happy Independence Day, and here's to 250 years of freedom. Thank you for your service, and God bless America.

Sometimes it’s easier to not do the thing. Not plan the event. Not participate in the community cause.

I’m sure it would’ve been easier for the folks in Hurley, Missouri, to skip their annual fireworks display last night. Hurley, in rural Stone County, has about 176 people.

I imagine it took significant work to plan the event, let alone raise the money to pay for it. Yet the folks at the Hurley Community Development Corporation, Hurley Fire Protection District and its auxiliary decided it was worth doing — and doing again. When attendees arrived, a fire department representative was at the gate accepting donations for next year’s show.

Long before the fireworks began, kids ran and played. Folks sat outside their vehicles — I’m not sure of an exact number, but it was a lot — and talked. It was so important to the community that the local cafe closed early so its employees could attend, too.

Locals could’ve said, “Let’s not bother.” But they didn’t.

Let’s take the time to “bother” with the things that are important in our communities.

This weekend, firefighters and first responders from across the area gathered at the Hurley Fire Protection District station for a Vehicle Rescue Operations training course presented by the University of Missouri Fire & Rescue Training Institute out of Columbia.

This free 16-hour class was secured by our Training Officer and brought together personnel from Hurley Fire Protection District, Billings Fire Protection District, Marionville Fire Department, Aurora Rural Fire Department, Halltown Fire Protection District, and Pleasant Hope.

The course covered a variety of topics including traffic incident safety, basic incident command, patient care considerations during vehicle accidents, and patient extrication techniques utilizing hydraulic rescue tools, commonly known as the "Jaws of Life."

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all of the departments that attended, as well as Hillbilly's Towing of Marionville, Missouri, for supplying the vehicles used during hands-on training. We also appreciate the University of Missouri Fire & Rescue Training Institute for providing the instructors and educational resources that made this training possible.

Training opportunities such as these help ensure that our firefighters and emergency responders remain prepared to serve our communities safely and effectively. We look forward to hosting additional training classes in the future.

The public is always welcome to observe these training events and gain a better understanding of the work that your local fire departments and emergency responders perform on a daily basis.

Not a typical call for the fire department, but when someone calls, they are here out of state and have lost their dog and needing help, we went to help! Thankfully with the help from the community and a special dog buddy, the dog was found, and there were some very happy owners!

The Hurley Fire protection District got to host the Hurley Preschoolers on their community walk, they had fun looking over the engine and wearing fire hats!! Thank you Hurley School for letting us be a part of their fun filled day!

Join the Hurley Class of 2026 for a donation-only pancake breakfast on Sunday, April 19th, from 8:00-11:00AM at the Train Station in Hurley. Funds raised will help fund the senior trip. We hope to see you there!
