Project Excel provides comprehensive programming for youth in areas of academics, career exploration, employment, and artistic development. Project Excel has four primary areas of focus:

Our Summer Youth Employees stepped into the role of entrepreneurs and presented original business ideas in a “Shark Tank”-style experience at the Launchpad in Huntington Village. They also answered on-the-spot questions about their presentations, demonstrating confidence, preparation, and quick thinking. The event encouraged creativity, entrepreneurship, critical thinking, and problem-solving as our youth explored real-world challenges and developed practical solutions. We are incredibly proud of our participants for their hard work, confidence, and innovative ideas. Thank you to Launchpad (launchpadhuntington.com) for providing our youth with this exciting opportunity to share their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit!

It’s been an amazing summer so far here at Project Excel! ☀️
From uncovering clues to International Cooking, our youth have spent the last few weeks learning, creating and growing together.

Some of our favorite highlights from Session 1:

🧠 Don’t Drain Your Brain: We teamed up with Huntington Drug & Alcohol Counseling Center to learn how the body handles tough choices and how to refuse peer pressure through challenges!
🕵️‍♂️ CSI : Youth stepped into the shoes of detectives to solve cases with the Huntington Youth Court.
🍳 International Cooking: We traveled the world through delicious recipes, learning about new cultures and music.
🎙️ Audio-Graphic Adventure: Our creative youth designed digital art and comic strips, they brought their imaginations to life!
🎨Fine Arts: Youth sharpened their skills and explored different fine arts. They even took walking trips around the Flanagan Activity Center, drawing inspiration from the local scenery.
📷 Photography: Our students captured beautiful moments behind the cameras.
💆‍♀️Mindful Art: In partnership with Project Sanctuary! Throughout this session, youth focused on increasing awareness of their thoughts, feelings and everyday challenges. Through artistic expression and physical activities, they learned new ways to express themselves and process emotions.
👩‍🎨Creative Arts Studio: These talented youth unleashed their imaginations as they moved past flat paper to design, sculpt and build amazing 3D art.
📈Entrepreneurship: Students learned the basics of product creation and marketing.
💻Hands-on STEM: Our creators built projects focused on life sciences and 3D design!

Summer Field Trips:

🧗‍♂️ Island Rock Indoor Rock Climbing: Youth scaled to new heights indoors!
🐠 Long Island Aquarium: This trip gave us an exclusive, behind the scenes tour of how the aquarium is run followed by a full day exploring the incredible underwater animals.
🚀 Cradle of Aviation: We explored the wonders of outer space and experienced living like an astronaut through hands on workshops (trying so freeze dried foods) and an amazing planetarium show!

Project Excel just wrapped up another wonderful Trades Career Panel as part of our Alternatives to College series of programming. We featured 10 guest speakers involved in a variety of trades: Carpentry, Law Enforcement, Personal Fitness/Entrepreneurship, Real Estate, Banking, Military, and Automotive Technology. Each panelist shared their unique career journey, offered valuable advice, and encouraged our youth to pursue careers that align with their interests, strengths, and goals. On behalf of Project Excel, we would like to thank our wonderful guest speakers, the Town Supervisor and the entire Town Council and Board, as well as the Huntington Youth Bureau for their support of such an amazing event!
