MovingPotential provides yoga and mindfulness for people impacted by addiction and incarceration.

Diirected by Sondra Loring, in collaboration with Sunder Ashni, Eric Cherry, Peggy Gould, Erick Montes, Dwayne Resnick, Aidan Samp, Hana Van Der Kolk, and Suanny Upegi.

Born from years of creative risk and listening, Witness began inside Greene Correctional Facility where Sondra led yoga, writing, and dance improvisation workshops for incarcerated men.

Those quiet, breath-filled moments became a shared language of resilience and dignity — then expanded as artists outside responded through dance scores, gestures, and what Sondra calls “telepathic dancing.” The result is part ritual, part performance, wholly human.

Our residency at .skidmore and was a true artistic exchange. From the classroom to the stage - we spent the weekend exploring the deep intersections of art, incarceration, and embodiment. 
We were honored to share our mission of supporting those impacted by the criminal justice system and addiction through movement and witnessing. 
Deep gratitude to (“Dancing to Success”), (“Embodied Storytelling”), and (“Libraries and Prisons”) for opening your classrooms to these vital conversations. 
A heartfelt shoutout to the incredible film department, Adam Ti**le and Angela Beallor-Press, and the MDOCS student video production crew. Your professionalism and heart created a focused, generous, and electric filming environment. 
And to the audience who joined us in the Dance Theater for our multimedia performance, thank you for helping us amplify the voices of formerly and currently incarcerated individuals.

.skidmore Feb. 27–28, MDOCS welcomes for a weekend residency featuring performance, workshops, and the creation of a filmed document of new work on campus.

Founded by Bessie Award–winning artist, Sondra Loring (seen on slide 3), MovingPotential supports individuals impacted by the criminal justice system and those navigating addiction through yoga, meditation, and dance. This residency continues MDOCS’ exploration of storytelling as a form of witnessing and connection across systems of incarceration.

The visit includes classroom workshops with (“Dancing to Success”), (“Embodied Storytelling”), and (“Libraries and Prisons”), as well as hands-on experience for the MDOCS student video production crew in documenting dance for the screen.

Join us in the Dance Theater for a multimedia performance amplifying voices of formerly and currently incarcerated individuals.
