This gorgeous ribbon covered horse is an HH alum - adopted several years back

Even more awesome - one of our adoptable horses, Kalli, was entered into last months show ( and did quite well!).
Check her out on our website

We know of several more HH alum that participated last month too- Do you have an HH horse that competed? Tell us!

Thank you Thistle Run Equestrian Event Services & their show entrants for their continued support of Horses Haven πŸ’—

A huge thank you to all of our May entries in our virtual horse show. Your participation helped make this month such a success.

Together we raised $360 for Horses Haven with our amazing judge Robyn Nunnally. We received some wonderful feedback from riders and are looking forward to having her back again soon.

A reminder that our new website is now the place to find all show results as well as entries for our June show. Be sure to check it out and get signed up. https://thistlerunequestrianevents.com/

I am also excited to be giving away my gorgeous year end awards again this year, so make sure you enter each month to stay in the running.

Welcome Winston and Copper! These old boys will see the vet today for intake vetting, get a dental, see the farrier, then head their new forever home tomorrow.
Thank you Lucky Day Animal Rescue for giving them a peaceful pasture for their remaining years β€οΈπŸ€—

We often get questions on why there is a gap of time between a horse's intake and availability for adoption - a perfect example of what goes on behind the scenes in this situation occurred on Friday. With 2 recent intakes, taking time to spend with them and observe them behaviorally and medically showed us that there were symptoms of pain beneath a healthy outward appearance. Both were scoped on Friday and revealed horrible gastric ulcers - with one of the horses having an enormous, ulcerated/bleeding polyp present in her stomach as well. The good news is that ulcers are treatable! But without a thorough evaluation and workup after intake, these horses could have been adopted back out into the community untreated and in chronic pain.

It is our strong belief that we must set up our horses and adopters for long term success - and that means putting in the time necessary to fully evaluate and prepare them for their next chapter of life 🐴❀️

Flashy, goofy, laid back, and always looking for something to carry off, Finnegan is the definition of a fun young horse. Whether it’s the lead rope, something hanging on the wall, or an item left on the ground, this boy loves to investigate and keep himself entertained. He adores scratches and is an all around good boy!

Born in April 2024, this handsome Standardbred/Mustang cross is currently standing around 13.3 hands and continues to grow and mature. Finnegan is very much a β€œgo with the flow” type β€” more whoa than go β€” and takes new experiences in stride. He attended his first show last fall where he quietly soaked everything in, and he has also been hand-walked on local trails with the same calm and easygoing attitudeFinnegan walks and trots nicely on the lunge line and has started cantering, though he still needs strength and encouragement to maintain forward motion as he builds muscle and confidence. He knows basic showmanship, ties well on the wall or cross ties, stands nicely for the farrier, and picks up all four feet. He is comfortable being handled during everyday farm chores β€” you can lead him out while carrying a wheelbarrow or dragging a hose and he barely bats an eye

Finnegan was born on our farm 4/26/24, his mother Katie arrived pregnant (search our page for lots of baby pictures). Finnegan was adopted in the fall of 2024, has had a wonderful start in life, but his adopter has made the difficult decision to rehome him.

FAQ Regarding transferring ownership after adoption.
An equine adopted from Horses Haven can come back at any time, for any reason for the rest of their lives!
Our contract (which can be found www.horseshaven.org/adoption ) allows for transferring ownership after the first year, from existing adopter to new adopter.
The new owner will complete Horse’s Haven’s adoption process by signing our adoption contract - we continue to follow up just as we do with all Horse’s Haven adopters.

🐴Horses’ Haven 2-Day Adoption Event🐴

For the first time ever, Horses’ Haven is hosting a 2-day adoption event at the farm featuring both rideable and companion horses available for adoption.

We are currently working hard to get 35 new horses vetted, evaluated, and listed on our website with bios. We hope to have them all posted by June 10th, but there may even be a few hidden gems available just in time for the event! Please note: adoptions will continue as normal leading up to the event, and we will not be placing holds on horses for the event weekend. If a horse catches your eye before then, please don’t wait to contact us.

Our focus has always been finding the right person for the right horse β€” prioritizing long-term success and keeping return rates very low, requiring a few event parameters:

πŸ“… Event Dates:
Friday, June 26 | 12 PM – 4 PM
Saturday, June 27 | 10 AM – 2 PM

To help keep things organized and ensure we maintain our adoption guidelines, please note the following:

βœ… Everyone is welcome to attend!
We will offer two guided tours each day, and the farm will be open for walking and visiting while preserving designated training areas for horses being handled by potential adopters.
βœ… Interested adopters must be pre-approved prior to the event.
Adoption surveys must be submitted no later than June 19th to allow time for conversations and approval processing. If you are approved and looking for a horse, come see who might steal your heart!
➑️ Click here to begin the approval process: https://www.horseshaven.org/adoption
βœ… Liability waivers are required for all visitors.
To save time at check-in, you are welcome to complete your waiver in advance:

🐎 Looking for a more family-focused day at the farm?
Be sure to mark your calendar for our Annual Open House on Saturday, September 12th!

We can’t wait to introduce you to these incredible horses. ❀️

A handful of the 35 new intakes in the last 2.5 months!

It takes a village… and an average of $1,146 intake cost per horse. Why? Every intake receives a full exam, including lameness, a dental exam and float, vaccines, farrier, bloodwork and radiographs.

That’s just an average. Insulin resistant- 3 of the newbies are, cushings disease- there are 2. Special shoes to correct poor hoof care? That would be 5. Medications or treatment to ensure good quality of life or a comfortable second career? 4 of the 35.

You can be a meaningful part of these horses stories by donating and helping us ensure they have everything they need to find their perfect adopter 🐴

Some are posted and some are still going through the intake process - which includes the above, plus evaluations. A little TLC is frequently needed after intake so there is no set timeline on when a horse becomes available after arrival. As soon as they are ready- we update their bios πŸ“ Check our website for information on our horses if you are interested in adoption!
