Add Percy Jackson and the Olympians to your summer weekend watch list. ⚡️🍿

Percy Jackson has ADHD and dyslexia, and those character traits were deeply intentional. Author Rick Riordan created Percy after his own son's experiences with ADHD and dyslexia helped inspire the story.

For kids who think and learn differently, seeing a hero whose brain works a little like theirs can matter. Representation has a way of reminding students that their differences belong in the story, too. 💙

From TQS to oyster restoration ecology. 🦪🌊

Matthew Gray '98 took his love of learning all the way to the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, where he served as an assistant professor of oyster restoration ecology.
Looking back on his time at TQS, some of Matthew's favorite memories include woodshop, ice skating, and, of course, recess with friends.

We love seeing where life takes our alumni and the incredible work they're doing along the way.

Some stories are worth sharing again.

Before TQS, school felt terrifying to Nick. Learning felt impossible, and the future was hard to imagine. Then, with the right support and the opportunity to learn in a way that worked for him, everything began to change.

He learned to read. He found joy in learning. He carried that motivation through high school, college, and into a TQS classroom of his own – as a teacher.

This is why the right school environment matters. When a student is given the skills, support, and belief they need to move forward, the impact can reach far beyond their years at TQS. 💙

Summer means more time together, fewer routines, and approximately 400 more opportunities a day to say, “Please stop doing that.” 😅

One small shift to try: catch them being good.

When you notice your child sharing, helping, trying again, or handling a tough moment well, say it out loud. Be specific. Give the high-five. Let them overhear you telling someone else about it.

Positive reinforcement helps children recognize the behaviors and choices we want to encourage, and sometimes a little extra attention for what's going right can go a long way.

Consider this your summer tip: request the highest of fives. ✋

At TQS, we believe school should be a place where students feel known, supported, and free to be themselves. That starts with the people leading the way—people who show up, join in, and aren't afraid to look a little silly while doing it.

We do school differently around here, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

The best summer activities require approximately zero prep. 🙌

Grab a cup of water and a few paintbrushes, then head outside. Let your child “paint” the sidewalk, driveway, fence, or patio and watch their masterpiece disappear in the sun.

Then? Paint it again. 🎨

A simple way to encourage creativity, fine motor skills, and open-ended play using things you probably already have at home.
