In honor of their mom (my cousin), Bonnie Tuman Grassey, my nieces established a scholarship fund to educate seven Guatemalan children who would never otherwise be able to go to school. Each year around Bonnie's birthday, they hold a fundraiser to continue this lovely memorial to their mom. Last year they raised over $5,000 and we hope we can do so again. There will be two prizes drawn by random selection, one for $500 and a second prize for $250. Will you help us out?

Quick visit to Bendicion. Julio's in the middle of re-painting the school. He has lots of students and teachers helping. We met three boys, who are graduating from 9th grade and pursuing additional degrees, two of which are hoping to become international chefs.

They're adorable.

I'm always impressed when Julio gives the kids a chance to speak to us directly. I think it instills greater confidence in themselves and creates a closer bond with us.

One of the photos features Julio sitting on a bench, handmade by the kids in the carpentry program, which was begun and supplied by our friends at Framingham MakerSpace. Provided with the opportunity and support, it is truly wonderful to see how these kids have acquired useful skills that will serve them the rest of their lives.

Mom has been on my mind A LOT lately. She always is. But more so than normal. Perhaps because mother’s day is around the corner and it’s everywhere. It’s such a tragically bittersweet day for me.

I love being a mom.

But it’s hard when you don’t have a mom to celebrate with, to thank her for teaching you how to be the mom that you are, to say how much you love her for everything she ever did. Because, there is just another level of appreciation for your mom after becoming one.

So, I have been working really hard on associating positive things when I have missing mom moments.

One thing I always go back to is the Bonnie Tuman Grassey Scholarship kiddos. They truly are little lights.

My sisters and I feel so fortunate to be able to support Carlos, Luis, Kimerly, Cecilia, Wendy, Caterin and Jouse

As you all know, we have been able to cover their tuition for this year, help with much needed home repairs and got to spend an incredibly special day with them.

But there has been even more.

And you need to know about it.

Some people have signed up as monthly donors with the intention of providing food baskets for these kids and their families.

Because of this, every other month we have been able to supply these 7, plus an additional 19 families with a monthly supply of food.

And can I just tell you - these kids looked healthier this time around. They were glowing compared to some of their classmates. Which was NOT the case a year ago. And it’s directly related to the food they have been getting.

But the most amazing thing we have been able to do is to provide english lessons and dental care to EVERY SINGLE KIDDO IN THIER CLASS. 25 kids.

Can you even imagine?

And as long as we can afford to, the english lessons and dental care will follow this class through their entirety at Bendición de Dios.

Providing them with english lessons will DRAMATICALLY impact their futures.

Providing them dental care keeps and prevents them from pain. It will help them to correctly eat their food so they can get all the nutrients possible.

All of this- because of YOUR generosity.
