What deeply troubles me is that this dog appears friendly but is clearly under tremendous stress. Where are the experienced rescues willing to recognize that a frightened, overwhelmed dog needs patience, compassion and an opportunity to decompress?

I’ve worked with dogs since 2008 and have dedicated years of my life to saving them. Unfortunately, ACCT Philadelphia continues to refuse to partner with my rescue, A Tale of Paws Rescue, despite my repeated efforts.

In 2024, a beautiful dog named Bullet was posted on Nextdoor. Unable to secure a foster home and determined not to let him die, I personally went to ACCT, adopted him and brought him into my rescue. A wonderful woman named Lynn, who was already fostering another abandoned dog, graciously opened her home to Bullet.

Unfortunately, ACCT was unhappy with my decision.

When two women expressed interest in fostering Bullet but refused to complete our foster application, I declined. Our screening process is nonnegotiable. Those two women then went back to the shelter and shared what I had done to save BULLET, Saving a dog’s life means more than placing that dog in someone’s home. It means ensuring that person is responsible, capable and committed to the dog’s well-being.

Following this situation, Sarah Barnett requested proof that Bullet was safe. I attempted to provide photographs and videos, yet I was escorted off the property.

Since then, I’ve repeatedly contacted Sarah, including through Facebook Messenger, offering to volunteer my time educating adopters and foster families about decompression, safe handling and responsible dog ownership. My outreach has gone unanswered.

Three years later, I’m still waiting for an explanation as to why my rescue cannot become an approved partner.

What breaks my heart is watching dogs who are frightened, stressed and emotionally overwhelmed being labeled as behavioral problems.

Imagine spending nearly every hour confined to a kennel, deprived of meaningful exercise, fresh air, stimulation and human companionship. Dogs need to walk, sniff, explore, play and experience life. Instead, many deteriorate emotionally in overcrowded shelters, and some ultimately lose their lives.

These dogs aren’t disposable. They are living, feeling beings who deserve understanding, patience and a genuine chance to thrive.

Despite the serious injuries I’ve endured over the past few years, I continue showing up because I refuse to abandon the voiceless. I would walk through fire for these beautiful animals.

I cannot express how heartbreaking it is to watch innocent dogs, including mothers and puppies, lose their lives while others are fortunate enough to make it out alive.

We must do better. We need more knowledgeable rescues, committed foster families, compassionate volunteers and meaningful collaboration between shelters and rescue organizations.

Saving lives requires courage, accountability, compassion and action.

Anyone who has truly experienced the unconditional love of a dog understands what an extraordinary gift these animals are. Their loyalty, forgiveness and devotion are unmatched.

They ask for so little yet give us so much. The very least we owe them is a fighting chance to live. ❤️🐶🙏

I will continue fighting for them because their lives matter. Every single one.

PS the black dog is the pup that was in the shelter that almost didn’t make it out. Had I not taken the initiative to do the right thing and I’m not saying for people to do what I did but when you truly are a good Rescue and you are here for the mission of saving the voiceless. You do what needs to be done like a soldier.!

🧡🐺🗣️ YES, HE HAS THAT CLASSIC HUSKY MELODIC 🎼🎵VOICE! Blues Clues can become excited and vocal around other dogs and sometimes pulls on his leash ( someone like myself can help train you how to correct that pulling behavior). He needs someone who understands his breed and can provide patient guidance, structure and positive reinforcement. 💜🙋🏻‍♂️🙋🏽‍♀️🙋🏼‍♀️🙋🏾‍♂️

💛🐕‍🦺🤝 WHAT ABOUT OTHER DOGS? Blues Clues has participated in supervised introductions and parallel walks. He demonstrated encouraging behavior by observing, sniffing and moving away independently. However, during one closer interaction, he became tense and nipped at another dog’s leg. He was redirected successfully. Future introductions should be carefully supervised and his compatibility with other dogs thoughtfully evaluated. Based on this information from the Shelter having a multi dog household, I would keep the dogs separated and please remember that all dogs don’t get along. It’s no different than human beings. We make friends with who we feel connected to. So slow introductions means successful fostering. Additionally, if you don’t understand how to read a dog’s body language don’t hesitate to ask questions. 💚🐾

🏡💜 HIS IDEAL FOREVER HOME: An experienced, compassionate adopter who understands Huskies and can provide stability, patience and consistent guidance. A home without children is recommended as a precaution. 🥰💛

💜 Staff observations 10/27: Blues Clues approached his kennel door with soft eyes and relaxed body language. He accepted a treat and was easily leashed. During his interaction with Jody, he initially displayed excitement and vocalization but responded to redirection. During a closer greeting, he became tense and nipped at Jody’s leg. She responded with an air snap and he was successfully separated. Later, he relaxed in the yard, approached his handler affectionately, leaned against their legs and allowed handling. He demonstrated SIT and PAW and returned to his kennel without difficulty.

I normally will do a walk with the two dogs & 2 Handlers) before letting them sniff each other that would come days later.)‼️ the new dog would be created or separated from my other dogs they would be allowed to smell each other through protective crates or in a separated room.‼️

She absolutely loves treats and is eager to engage with people!

Like many young, energetic dogs, Julia is still learning her manners. She sometimes pulls on her leash, jumps up when excited or becomes mouthy when overstimulated.
