Juneteenth is a day to reflect on the enduring importance of freedom, equality, and citizenship. It commemorates June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved Americans in Texas finally learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

For Scouts, Juneteenth is also a reminder that leadership begins with understanding. The values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law challenge us to be helpful, kind, brave, and respectful of others' experiences. By learning about our nation's history, listening to different perspectives, and recognizing both the struggles and achievements of those who came before us, we become stronger leaders and better citizens.

This Juneteenth, let's take time to learn, reflect, and recommit ourselves to building communities rooted in respect, service, and opportunity for all.

Super happy to see Mr. Jackson Grage, College Scouter Reserve back on Owasippe staff! Jackson has been on the property roughly a month and will be for the remainder of the season. He is working his FOURTH summer at Camp Blackhawk GO! and his second as the Handicraft Area Director.

Last Saturday, we had the opportunity to celebrate Caleb Stamps, who became our Troop's 124th Eagle Scout in September. Caleb was joined by fellow Scouts, family, and friends at Irons Oaks Park for his Eagle Court of Honor, where we recognized his hard work and commitment to Scouting. We are extremely proud of Caleb's accomplishments and are pleased that he continues to serve the Troop as a College Scouter Reserve.

We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Mrs. Donna Wickstrom. As noted in her obituary, Troop 342 always held a special place in her heart.

Donna was instrumental in planning our Troop's 75th Anniversary Celebration in 2003 and served as chair of our Pancake Breakfast fundraiser for many years. Her dedication, enthusiasm, and support helped shape our troop and benefited countless Scouts and families.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with her family and friends, especially her husband, Mr. Nils Wickstrom, a former Assistant Scoutmaster, and her son, Mr. Erik Wickstrom, a Troop 342 Eagle Scout (2007) and former Assistant Scoutmaster.

Donna's contributions to Troop 342 will be remembered with gratitude and appreciation. She will be greatly missed.

Donna grew up in Chicagos Pilsen neighborhood, a source of pride, and she remained a city girl at heart. Even after moving to Country Club Hills, she would sit on the stoop and wait for people to walk by and chat, but unfortunately that city tradition didnt make the move
