Holly Area Youth Assistance Strengthen families & to prevent & reduce delinquency, neglect & abuse through community involvement

Holly Area Youth Assistance provides low cost, confidential, short-term, family-centered counseling and referral service for local young people (under the age of 17) and their families. The focus is on the whole family and not just the incident that brings the family to Youth Assistance. Like other HAYA services, casework services aspire to reduce the incidence of delinquency, abuse and neglect through volunteer involvement.

Inclusion starts with the simple words we choose. You belong ❤️

The words we use with children have the power to help them feel seen, valued, and like they truly belong. Small changes in our language - such as saying "You belong here," "I'm glad you're here," or "You can be yourself here" - can make a lasting impact. Inclusive phrases teach children empathy, acceptance, and respect for differences from an early age. When children feel included, they're more likely to build confidence, form meaningful friendships, and actively participate in learning. By modeling inclusive language every day, we create environments where every child knows they matter. Inclusion starts with the simple words we choose.

The words adults use with children matter more than we sometimes realize. While certain phrases may be said out of frustration, habit, or even good intentions, they can leave lasting impressions on a child's confidence, emotions, and sense of self. This isn't just for parents - grandparents, caregivers, teachers, coaches, and any adult who interacts with children can benefit from choosing words thoughtfully. Instead of using phrases that dismiss feelings, shame mistakes, or discourage communication, we can focus on language that builds connection, understanding, and trust. Small shifts in how we respond can have a big impact on a child's emotional well-being.
