The celebration continues as we FULLY celebrate the last two days of convention! The results are in…and Holland Patent FFA is awesome!

Our Senior Quiz Bowl Competitors were elite with their trivia knowledge taking them to the top ten teams once again! Great job Thomas Howard, Griffin Pritchard, Connor Earl and Reilly O’Brien! 🏆

We had two Floriculture teams compete - with Aidan Kneezle, Trace Finn, Madeline Snider and Claire Favata making up one team, and Nia Westcott, Lauren Favata, Avery Kneezle and Carly Dawes making up the second! Great job to our team of Seniors for being in the top eight, and a huge shoutout to Madeline Snider for placing FOURTH in the contest of over 250 competitors! GREAT JOB! 💐💐

We also had two Junior Floriculture Competitors, Kloee LeClair and Lilah Pitcher! EXCELLENT JOB TO LILAH FOR PLACING FIRST!! 💐💐

Our day wasn’t finished - we also had a Marketing Plan that gave our judges “The Scoop” on our Corduroy Cow Ice Cream Flavor! The team consisted of Madeline Snider, Addison Snider and Delanie Howard - and THEY WON! We will see the end of their story this October at the National FFA Convention! CONGRATULATIONS GIRLS!! We are all so, so proud of you! 🍦

To round out Friday, Colton Minnig and Addy Snider served as Delegates for our chapter, making decisions and providing suggestions for the Future of FFA. Our District Meeting may not have provided the results we had hoped for Bella Bulson, but we are incredibly proud of her efforts in running for District President and being slated! ⚖️

Our results DON’T stop there! Madeline Snider won her Proficiency Category in Agriculture Education for her countless hours spent investing in younger members, educating elementary children about agriculture, and serving as an Oneida County Dairy Ambassador. Her application will be headed to National FFA Convention in October! Congratulations Maddy!! 🌟

The day ended with Reese Finn presenting her Extemporaneous Speech on stage in front of 3,000 people! So, so proud of you Reese! 🎤

Then? We hit the ball game to see the Buffalo Bisons and interact with some really great FFA Members! ⚾️

Stay tuned for our final day of conventions updates!

Day One of Convention in BuFFAlo was more than we could have hoped for!

🌟Bella Bulson was a top six finalist for Prepared Speaking!!

🌟🏆 Our Agriculture Issues team was SECOND in the State!! Eastern States BOUND in Springfield Massachusetts! Congrats to Griffin Pritchard, Connor Earl, Colton Minnig, Reilly O’Brien, Bella Bulson and Rachel Gerard-Smith!

🌟🏆Reese Finn was FIRST in Extemporaneous Speaking - heading to NATIONAL CONVENTION in October! Our FIRST LDE WINNER HEADED TO NATIONALS since we’ve been rechartered! Congratulations to Reese!!

🌟 We also had two Junior Tool ID teams including Nolan Hill and Calib Brooks - and Mason Siver and Horatio Sykes to round out the day! Although there was some STIFF competition, we are still so proud of their efforts!

🌟The ones who didn’t compete yesterday? Packed meals for those less fortunate during a Service Project for people within the Buffalo Community!

🌟 We also got to meet with one of our favorite agricultural advocates, Commissioner of Agriculture Richard Ball as well as meet the visiting National Officer, T. Wayne Williams.

I’d say opening day was pretty successful! Catch you later for some more convention updates!

💛💙Officer Highlight Time! 💙💛

Reese Finn is a sophomore and this year’s chapter treasurer, currently in her third year of FFA. She was introduced to FFA by her father, a former Holland Patent member, and quickly found her place in the organization. One of her favorite memories is competing in dairy handling at the Big E. As an officer, Reese hopes to continue building the Holland Patent chapter’s reputation after rechartering just three years ago.

Throughout her time in FFA, Reese has found success in both LDEs and CDEs. Her first year, she placed 1st in the state in Jr. People in Agriculture, which sparked her passion for competing. She has also earned top placements in several events, including 1st in Sr. Quiz Bowl, 2nd in Jr. Creed Speaking, and 3rd in both Ag Issues and Dairy Handling. She advanced to the Big E in Creed Speaking, placing 2nd, and in Dairy Handling, placing 6th overall. Dairy Handling is her favorite event because it combines her love of working with cows and being around others who share her passion.

After high school, Reese plans to attend Cornell University to study animal science with a concentration in dairy. She hopes to work in the dairy industry before eventually returning to her family’s 1,200-cow farm.

AND… it’s her birthday today! Happy Birthday Reese!

Huge Congratulations are in Order!

We were notified earlier this week that Madeline Snider is a TOP TWENTY finalist for State Officer Selection! A great honor, and one we are very proud of!

Madeline's work has just begun - during April she will participate in rounds of additional interviews including Stakeholder conversations, One-on-One Interviews with the Nominating Committee, Stand and Deliver Speeches in addition to other interview rounds as well. If selected, she would serve New York FFA for the upcoming year as a State Officer - traveling to schools, meeting with agricultural leaders, and hosting events.

Congratulations Maddy - the excitement is just beginning!

💛💙Introducing another Chapter Officer! 💙💛

Bella Bulson is a 10th grade student and serves as the Reporter for her FFA chapter. She has been involved in FFA for three years. Bella joined FFA after giving a presentation in her Intro to Agriculture class and being asked if she wanted to compete in Prepared Public Speaking, which she immediately said yes to. Her favorite LDE is Prepared Public Speaking, and her favorite CDE is Dairy Evaluation. One of her favorite FFA memories is dance night at Camp Oswegatchie, when she and some friends wore pink wigs, pink skirts and danced around together. Her favorite FFA event she has attended is the Washington Leadership Conference, where she felt very connected with her community group and the people she met there. Outside of FFA, Bella plays volleyball and runs cross country and track. A fun fact about Bella is that she did not grow up with an agriculture background, but through FFA she has developed a strong interest in agriculture and enjoys learning more about it. As an officer this year, she hopes to help make FFA a welcoming place where members feel comfortable being themselves. In the future, Bella hopes to attend college and become an elementary education teacher.

🍁 Serving up some Sweet Knowledge! 🍁

Members from the Holland Patent FFA and Conservation Program at BOCES teamed up to provide a tasty educational lesson on Maple Syrup production to 4th graders at Holland Patent.

🥞Students explored why Maple Syrup season happens now, how sap gets boiled down into syrup, how syrup is graded and the color effects the taste, and even got to see some of the tools commonly used in the industry.

🌟The lesson of course had to end with some tasting of Maple Syrup! Excellent job to Aidan Kneezle, Reily Hook-Beyers, Ethan Smith, Logan DeAngelo, Dawson Koenig, Trace Finn, Griffin Pritchard and Connor Earl for such a great presentation!

Give FFA Day

As apart of FFA Week, we often find ourselves reminiscing about the times we spent in this jacket. Maybe you spent your time at Camp Oswegatchie, traveling to National Convention - either Kansas City, Louisville or Indianapolis - spending a week in Washington DC, or helping with the school fair or annual calf sale.

If you weren’t apart of FFA, maybe you’ve seen at least one of your friends make a post about the largest youth leadership organization in the country, with over 1 Million members all striving for Premier Leadership, Personal Growth and Career Success.

If you were one of those fortunate to have worn the blue corduroy, I’m sure you’ve also been grateful for those who have helped get you there. Maybe it was that person that bought your calf, maybe it was that person that gave you a scholarship to Camp Oswegatchie, or maybe, they were the person that slipped on your first FFA Jacket with you.

Today is your chance to be that person for someone else. By giving to FFA day, you help FFA members make memorable moments that will last a lifetime. Your donation today helps put a jacket on a student, send them to Camp Oswegatchie, provides travel assistance to those representing New York at National FFA Convention, gives SAE grants to start or expand their projects, and most importantly - contributes to some of the greatest memories of member can have during their time in FFA.

If FFA made an impact on you, or someone you know - this is an opportunity to give back. For those interested in supporting the next generation of agriculturists, feel free to contribute to the Give FFA Day Campaign, and credit Holland Patent with your donation.
