Today we rode around Palmetto Hall, going 12.8 miles and averaging 8.6 mph. Ken surprised the group by stopping at his house where Kathy was waiting on the patio with a cooler of water bottles and freshly made brownies. Afterwards we had lunch at Terrapin.

Today our group of eight was fortunate to be able to explore Indigo Run under the guidance of Bob and Diann. We rode 11.48 miles at 8.8 mph with a special stop at the Rookery that has been getting so much press lately in Next Door. What a lovely sight. We were rewarded with nesting groups of Roseate Spoonbills, Wood Storks, and Great Egrets, along with an alligator patrolling the perimeter. And the forecasted sprinkles held off just until we were exiting lunch at Fish Camp. Thanks Bob and Diann for a special treat!

Today we rode 12.7 miles, averaging 8.2 mph. A few sprinkles threatened as we were gearing up, followed by the 3 H's (heat, humidity, and haze) which were tempered by a nice breeze most of the ride. Diane D. spotted 3 juvenile deer early in the ride but someone's squeaky bike frightened them off before the entire group could ooh and ahh. Thanks for the ride, Sue and Roger!

It felt like summer had arrived as 14 Chain Gang members pedaled 10.8 miles at 8.9 mph through the neighborhoods of Point Comfort and Crossings Park. Thankfully Roz kept us on shady paths and lunch at Black Marlin gave us an opportunity to cool off. Thanks Roz for the ride!

Welcome to Mary and a perfect day for a bike ride through Hilton Head Plantation. We rode 12.18 miles at 8.6 mph, enjoying shaded trails, hints of Jasmine and, for some, a first glimpse of the new beach at Dolphin Head. But, we still haven't found the eagle nest on Ribaut Island, despite fourteen pairs of eye's searching for it. Lunch on the deck at Hudson's provided a nice conclusion.

Ken led us on a 12.39 miles ride from Palmetto Hall down to Chaplin Park and back. At 8.9 mph average, we enjoyed the shaded bike trails on a warm spring day. Ken brought along his guest, George, from Rochester, NY and we all gathered for lunch at Terrapin afterwards.

Today's ride covered 9 miles at 7.5 mph. Not too impressive, eh? But we did conquer the Sea PInes Preserve with its very loose sandy roads and paths. Did I mention we're in a drought so the sand was deeper than normal. We had a few crashes and one skuffed up knee but, when not watching the road intently, we enjoyed the beauty and solitude of the area, in addition to a few gators, and never had to call for medical assistance. Thanks Marty and Judy for a ride we won't forget for a while. 😂

Bob and Diane led us on a pleasant ride through the Mitchelville area. We covered 13.17 miles at an average speed of 8.7 mph. Our distance was exactly .01 miles longer than last week, in case you were wondering. It was fun to see the new construction and activity at Mitchelville Park and lunch at the newly renovated North End Tavern.
