MidWest Biodiversity Institute 501[c][3] nonprofit research organization dedicated to water quality, protection & restoration of biodiversity and education.

We perform bioassessment using biological indicators and train others how to perform bioassessment and collect credible data. The Midwest Biodiversity Institute (MBI) is a 501[c][3] nonprofit research organization located in Columbus, Ohio. MBI is dedicated to assessing important environmental and natural resource issues, including water quality and the protection and restoration of biodiversity utilizing biological indicators using the best scientific methods and practices available. We are nationally recognized for our pioneering research methods that produce credible data, and, since 1997 we have amassed a significant body of research that helps to advance the understanding of critical habitats, species and environmental management practices.

It is with profound sadness to share MBI has lost one of it's very own, Martin (Marty) Knapp. Since 2007, Marty has been with MBI as a macroinvertebrate taxonomist, but also was a mentor to many biologists and extremely active with volunteer work over the years. With his sense of humor, incredible work ethic, and dedication to our natural world, his loss creates a large hole at MBI. He will be forever missed.
