Positions of Responsibility - Librarian

Troop librarians oversee the care and use of troop books, pamphlets, magazines, and audiovisuals.. They check out these materials to Scouts and leaders and maintain records to ensure that everything is returned. They may also suggest the acquisition of new literature and report the need to repair or replace any current holdings.

Now that many of these resources online, the librarian can also direct scouts to the Merit Badge page https://www.scouting.org/skills/merit-badges/ to download the pamplets for free and the Digital Resource Guides https://www.scouting.org/skills/merit-badges/digital-resource-guides/ for additional support materials.

Here’s some clarity on the Safeguarding Youth Training:
Took the old YPT (no 90-minute course completed)?
Full 90-minute course required
New 90-minute course expired more than 6 days ago?
Full 90-minute course required
90-minute course expired 6 days or less OR still active?
Refresher course assigned
Renewal emails will direct participants to “My Training”, where they can select “Take Course” or “Retake Course”. The system will automatically guide them to the correct training based on their status.

Important note - Anyone who has completed only the refresher without ever completing the full 90-minute course will still need to complete the full course. Clearing the browser cache may be necessary to ensure the “Retake Course” button routes correctly.

Which training path should you take?
➡️ If you have never taken Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT), if your SYT has been expired for 7 days or more, or if you did not successfully pass the SYT Refresher exam on your first attempt, you must take the full Safeguarding Youth Training (approximately 90 minutes).

⬅️ If you have completed the full Safeguarding Youth Training and it is either currently active or has expired within the last 7 days, you are eligible to take the Refresher Course (approximately 20 minutes). If you do not successfully pass the Refresher exam on the first attempt, you must return to complete the full SYT course.
