Last week, we were pleased to welcome John B. Lewis, Managing Director and Private Advisor with Rockefeller Global Family Office, as our guest speaker.
John provided a fascinating Capital Market Update, offering perspective on how economic, political, and geopolitical events have influenced financial markets throughout history. Using long-term market data and historical trends, he demonstrated how equity markets have often responded during the different years of a presidential term, regardless of political party, underscoring the importance of maintaining a long-term investment perspective.
He also discussed current global events and their potential impact on markets and the economy. In particular, John highlighted the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, reminding us that far more than oil passes through this critical shipping corridor. Disruptions in the region can affect global trade, supply chains, energy markets, and ultimately the broader economy.
John's presentation provided valuable context for understanding today's market environment and reinforced the importance of looking beyond daily headlines to focus on long-term economic and investment trends.
Thank you, John, for an informative and thought-provoking presentation.

Last week, we were delighted to welcome Miss Virginia 2025, Madison Whitbeck, as our guest speaker.
Madison shared the inspiring mission behind her community service platform, “Arts for All: Advocating for Accessible and Affordable Arts Education.” Through her work, she champions expanded funding and awareness for school arts programs so that every child—regardless of background or financial circumstance—has the opportunity to discover confidence, creativity, and self-expression through the arts.
Traveling to more than 70 elementary schools across Virginia, Madison promotes healthy choices, substance abuse prevention, and the powerful role the arts can play in helping young people find their voice.
What stood out most was not simply her title, but her message. Articulate, focused, and passionate, Madison reminded us that confidence is often built through discovering what matters to us and having the courage to express it. Her presentation emphasized that success is not only about achievement or recognition—it is also about what you stand for, how you lift others up, and the positive impact you choose to make.
Thank you, Madison, for sharing your passion and purpose with our club.

On May 21st, a group of West Richmond Rotarians spent the morning at Johnson Elementary, rolling up their sleeves and joining students in harvesting vegetables from the school garden our club helped create..
Together, students and Rotarians gathered fresh vegetables while sharing smiles, conversation, and hands-on lessons about nature, responsibility, and the rewards of nurturing something from the ground up.
The garden has become a living classroom—one that not only provides fresh produce but also cultivates curiosity, teamwork, and pride among the students. Watching young gardeners carefully harvest the fruits of their labor was a joyful reminder of how community partnerships can help sow confidence, learning, and healthy habits.
We are proud to support this growing project and grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such enthusiastic students and dedicated educators.
Sometimes the most meaningful service begins with a seed.
